Hollywood Betrayal: Celebrity Marriages that Ended Over Infidelity

With the adultery scandal of Jesse James in the headlines (his wife, actress Sandra Bullock, allegedly moved out of the couple's home last week after tattoo model Michelle "Bombshell" McGee leaked the news of her 11 month long affair with James), it brings to mind the many Hollywood marriages that have succumbed to infidelity over the years. Here's a look back at some celebrity marriages that ended over infidelity.

Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. While their wasn't one specific affair that ended this once- storybook marriage, dashing Cuban band leader Desi Arnaz was said to be notorious womanizer. According to a 1991 People Magazine article, Desi really did love Lucy. I Love Lucy writer Bob Weiskopf told People, "Basically, Desi's attitude was, "What the hell's the matter? I love her. When I go out with women, they're usually hookers. Those don't count." But in 1960, after too many years of "booze and broads", Lucille had enough and filed for divorce. While the two had a lifelong love for each other, their marriage just couldn't take the weight of the betrayals.

Halle Berry and Eric Benet . While Oscar winner Halle Berry may not know the exact number of times she was cheated on, her ex-husband Eric Benet did admit to indiscretions and even reportedly went to sex addiction rehab. But according to a 2006 Starpulse article, Benet denies cheating on Berry "27 times" as she once claimed. He later told New York Magazine that the "sex addict" label wasn't how he'd describe his situation. In any event, amidst infidelity rumors, the couple divorced in 2005.

Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher. In 1955, actress Debbie Reynolds married popular crooner Eddie Fisher and they had two kids together, Carrie and Todd. It seemed to be a match made in heaven. Indeed, in an excerpt from her book, Wishful Drinking, Carrie Fisher described her parents as "America's sweethearts", and "the Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston of their day". Enter family friend, the beautiful Elizabeth Taylor, who was married to Mike Todd. When Todd died in a plane crash in 1958, Eddie Fisher consoled Liz and the two fell in love. Fisher married Taylor in 1959, the same year he and Reynolds divorced.

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston. Like the Fisher's, Hollywood Golden Couple Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston seemed to have it all. And at the time of their divorce in 2005, Aniston did not claim that Pitt cheated on her. But three years later, Pitt's new lady, Angelina Jolie, spilled the beans that she and Pitt fell in love on the set of the movie Mr. and Mrs . Smith. At the time the movie was filming, Pitt was still very much married to Aniston. In the summer of 2005, when Pitt and Jolie were featured playing house in a domestic-themed W Magazine cover story spread, Aniston was infamously quoted as saying her ex was "missing a sensitivity chip."

Shania Twain and Mutt Lange. In 2008 People Magazine reported on the breakup of the 14 year marriage of singer Shania Twain and her producer husband, Mutt Lange. Lange allegedly had an affair with Twain's longtime friend and secretary, Marie-Anne Thiebaud, who at the time was married to husband, Frederic. While Thiebaud denied the affair rumors, both couple's marriages broke up. Today, Thiebaud and Lange are a couple- and so are scorned partners Twain and Frederic Thiebaud.
