Hollywood Brats: The Public Has Had Enough

Hollywood has produced it's share of young, bratty child actors. What happens when they grow up to be pathetic, bratty adults?

Diane Green
The American public is both insulted and embarrassed, when it comes to the media attention that is given to Hollywood's brattiest entertainers. Horrid behavior, is not only condoned, it is encouraged by our press. This action is sending the wrong message to the youth of this great nation. One can't pick up a magazine without seeing Britney Spear's crotch or a drunken Lindsay Lohan splashed across the the front page. Television media is worse, it brings the behavior into one's home. Programs like "Access Hollywood", "The Insider" and "Extra" thrive on the shock value and sensationalism that these young Hollywood brats can bring. It is no wonder that the drop out rate in our high schools and the drug problems are at an all time high, look at the role models that our media has provided. Our children are taught that public drunks, homewreckers, drug addicts and flashers are cool. They are shown that when they behave in this manner ,they get attention and praise.

Our American youth, have recently been shown ,that it is okay for a mother of two to show her vagina to the press and stay out for weeks in a drunken state of mind. This same mother has had the Child Protective Services called about her parenting on two other occaisions, yet the media makes light of the situation.

Where are the role models of today? Why don't we have stories about young entertainers that are making a difference in society? Why don't we hear about good deeds and acts of morality and character? I would like to challenge our public media and encourage them to shun the easy, obvious act of lude behavior and reward the hard working, deserving stories of moral fiber.

I am not one for censorship. I do believe that if we don't like what we see, we don't have to buy the magazine or watch the program. The problem, however is that there is no other option. It is everywhere, because the media is programmed to believe that "shock value"sells. The media exists on the theory of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Well, it is broken and for the sake of our youth, it is in serious need of repair.

One of the all time top stories, is the story of Baby Jessica. A community came together to save the life of a child. The most photographed and sought after figure in the eighties and early nineties was Princess Diana. She was a beacon of hope, dedicating herself to helping others. Elliot Mintz , the publicist for Paris Hilton, has been quoted as saying, "Paris Hilton is the new Princess Diana". The mere thought of comparing the two women, is an abomination to Princess Diana's legacy. Just because Paris Hilton is the most photographed woman today, doesn't mean that she is in the same class as the late Princess. Paris Hilton, is a prime example that money cannot buy class or character.

The American people want quality. The American people want character. The American people want responsible jounalism. It is now time for the media to step up to the task.

If people would stop buying that garbage, it would no longer be produced. They only create what sells. Now... how to change the public's white-trash desires... hmmmm gonna have to get back to you on that one. LOL Great read, Diane .

Sorry, but they don't. They really would rather see Brtiney's vag or Lohan's drunkeness. That's why they still are on covers. That's why they still sell magazines. The "journalists" have absolutely zero incentive to change the way they do things. They only would if we the people would stop caring. Unfortunately, I think there will always be people out there who love seeing how much better they are than celebrities, and I think that's why this exists. Cynical, I know, but I've never cared at all for celebrity journalism. It's all complete trash, the mutant-offshoot of our news-saturated society.
