Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course Announces Layoffs

Hollywood Casino just opened months ago. December 1st its announced the mailing received by 55,000 slot players was intended for only 1,000 of those players. That mistake was offering nearly $29 million in free slot play in total. The make up for the mistake could cost around $7 million.

Now, just weeks later, WGAL news announced on its nightly broadcast that the company is going to lay off 15 of its workers. Although strange enough, they originally expected to layoff about 30 workers. Some of the expected lay offs were lucky enough to receive other positions with the company, but 15 are not so lucky.

Having 19 jobs listed on their website right now that are open draws some confusion to this matter, especially considering just a few hours ago I submitted a review of the casino siting that they are in need of a few more waitresses on the casino floor.

From the AP: "Company spokesman Eric Schippers says the economic downturn is forcing staff cuts at the Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course near Harrisburg."

In the last few months, there have been many articles posted stating that the Pennsylvania Casinos are thriving despite a rough economy. I sited it up to people with less money hoping to spend $20 and gain $100, but that will never be know for sure. The increase in Pennsylvania Casino Revenue wasn't even including Hollywood Casino at Penn National Racecourse as of earlier this month.

From casinocitytimes.com: "November slots revenue was $114.7 million, up from $101.6 million in November 2007. The seventh casino, Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course in Grantville, opened in February and is not accounted for in the revenue increase."
