Hollywood Video, Movie Gallery, and Game Crazy Sets New Sale Standard for Liquidation

Hollywood Video/Movie Gallery Drops Prices Further

Andrew Berry
The video-rental chain titled "Hollywood Video", "Game Crazy", and "Movie Gallery" (Movie Gallery is technically the mother company of these companies) have set an even lower standard for their already-low priced liquidation sales. You can see the original article about their closings here.

For your information, many high-traffic rental DVDs such as 300, Blades of Glory, Hot Fuzz, and others have been transferred out of the liquidating stores and are being relocated to stores that are keeping their doors open to the public. Generally these high-traffic titles will not be available for sale, and no rentals are allowed during the liquidation process for various reasons.

The sale prices have dropped even further within the closing Hollywood Video and Movie Gallery stores. The maximum savings now being 25%-30%. So, for example, the many movies that are currently prices at $9.99 are now $6.99, and so on and so forth. Concessions have also plummeted to the 30% off, which includes candy, popcorn, sodas, and other snacks that are available for purchase at the Hollywood and Movie Galleries stores that are currently going through a liquidation sale.

Games have dropped to an average of 25% off their marked price as well, making some of the newer generation systems' games worth purchasing now. However, it is unlikely that many new-generation games are available as they too have been transferred to other high-traffic stores for further renting. But there's a wide variety of Microsoft X-Box, Nintendo Gamecube, and Playstation 2 games available for purchase. Out of the newer generation systems I saw that Microsoft's X-Box 360 had the most available games for sale, Sony's Playstation 3 in second for the amount of games on sale at the liquidation sale, and Nintendo Wii in last with less than six or seven titles available.

The stores going through the liquidation process have a limited amount of time before closing. My store is closing in two weeks on October 16th, 2007. Ask a Guest Service Representative, a Shift Leader, or a Manager for more details about store closings and when the store near you may be closing.

Store sales for the liquidation sales vary from store to store within the Hollywood Video, Movie Gallery, and Game Crazy stores. For additional information about liquidation prices and whether a store is closing, contact your nearest Hollywood Video or Movie Gallery store.

The future of this company still hangs in the balance as financial troubles still arise, as well as their current lack of online movie rentals and/or downloads.
