Hollywood's Top 5 Brains

L F Calland
When we see an actor in a movie, we never think that he did anything in his life but acting. However, in Hollywood, there are huge examples of actors that can think and became actors because it was what they loved. This list shows five celebrities that shared their lives between the cameras and a bright academic future.
DANICA MCKELLAR

Danica Mckellar was born in January 3, 1975, in San Diego California. I really doubt that any of you can't remember who Danica Mckellar is (the girl in the picture), but if you need to refresh your memory, Danica Mckellar was one of the kid stars, Winnie Cooper, from the TV Series "The Wonder Years".

Since The Wonder Years, she played many guest roles in TV, and wrote and directed two short films. She had been in "The West Wing", as Elsie Snuffin the sister and assistant of Deputy White House Communications Director Will Bailey.

Despite that not so promising career as an actress, Danica Mckellar doesn't need to worry about her bills. What Hollywood doesn't tell is about her very successful career in UCLA. She left the acting career to study mathematic theorems. In 1998 Danica, a colleague and a professor, proofed a theorem about alignment of magnetic fields, which is known as Chayes-McKellar-Winn.

In 2007 Danica published the book "Math Doesn't Suck"; in this book, she tries to convince people that is possible to study mathematics and don't die of the most complete boredom. As an example, she teaches how to study combinatory analysis in manufacturing small colorful bracelets. Her website, in which is possible to ask mathematic questions, is www.danicamckellar.com.

JAMES WOODS

James Howard Woods was born in 1947, in Utah. He was nominee for two Oscars and his Movie list is long. "John Carpenter's Vampires" and "The General's Daughter" are movie examples, but his voice had been in many other enterprises, as "Family Guy", "The Simpsons", "GTA San Andreas" and "Kingdom Hearts II".

About his academic achievements, the first thing a person should know is that this weird man has an IQ of 180. His score in the SAT gave him a scholarship in MIT, for Political Sciences. In MIT he studied defense analysis, game theories and joined the Theater Group. When he was in senior year he had to choose between his academic career or being an actor. He chose the latter.

After some years as an actor, Woods got back to his studies in a different way. He started playing professional poker, in which he seems to be very good. In 2006 he achieved 24th place in the Los Angeles World Poker Tour.

DOLPH LUNDGREN

He was born in 1957 as Hans Lundgren in Stockholm Sweden, and this really squared jawed man has more than his inexpressive acting face (which he made very well use in Masters of the Universe and Rocky IV).

His IQ is 160 and has Masters in Chemistry Engineering. This huge robotic man also speaks seven languages: Swedish, English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese and Italian. No wonder he never learned how to act: he had to spend most of his time studying Chemistry and seven languages.

NATALIE PORTMAN

Born in 1981, Jerusalem, Israel, the pretty princess Amidala has more than a pretty face. Apparently a very rigid control made her not only and actress but an excellent student; she actually missed the "Star Wars: Episode I" release ceremony because she had to study for her finals.

This dedication guaranteed her a spot in Harvard, in Psychology. During College she acted in "Cold Mountain" and "Star Wars: Episode II"; back then, she was researching the memory retention processes in the brain frontal lobe (she actually published a study about that). She got her degree in 2003 and during shoots in Jerusalem, she studied "Violence Anthropology" in the Hebrew University.

JESSICA STEINHAUSER

The ones of you that might recognize her will know her as Asia Carrera, a very well succeeded porn-star that acted in more than 300 Movies. Apparently, this porn thing was, in fact, a life option and not a result of a sequence of misfortunes, as many say.

Her IQ is 150 and she is a part of the Mensa Society (international society for humongous brains). When Jessica was 16 she already played piano in the Carneggie Hall, participated in the Mathematic Olympics and won a spelling contest in New Jersey. She ran away from home against her parents' rigid education, and got a full scholarship in Rutgers University, for Japanese and Administration. However, she found a more profitable niche in the adult entertainment world.

Between movies, Jessica writes, draws, plays the piano and readw about stock market and quantum physics. Nowadays, she is retired and dedicates her time to a website that she developed herself.
