Hollywood's Top 5 Movie Remakes

Remakes that Are Better Than the Original

Samantha Jean Lincoln
The remaking of a movie from its original is no easy task. A lot of great movies that I remember from my childhood I thought would be much better if there was more advanced technology available to the directors to make the films more sensational and captivating. So now that it is 20 years later and we have access to amazing technology, we are seeing movie remakes soar, some of which are just as good or better than the original and some that should have been left alone, as they were great the way they were originally. My top five picks are remakes that were all better than the original.

Cape Fear (Original: 1962, Remake: 1991)

Both the original and the remake were good movies, but the remake was better because of Robert De Niro's performance. The original stared Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchem, was released in 1962 and for its time the movie was great. Then came the remake in 1991 staring Robert De Niro, wow what a performance. He was so good in his roll that I thought he was really like that; I had to tell myself that is was just a movie and a remake at that. In the remake all of the actors and actresses were awesome, the movie as a whole was spectacular.

The Taking of Pelham 123 (Original: 1974, Remake: 2009)

The original movie stared Walter Matthew and Robert Shaw and for its time, it was a pretty good fast paced movie, but then came the remake. Staring John Travolta and Denzel Washington this movie gets an A+; the movie was fast and action packed with great special effects that the original was lacking.

Mutiny on the Bounty (Original: 1935, 1962, Remake: 1984)

This movie was originally filmed in 1935 and for its time was a great movie because of the strong story line, it was then remade in 1962 and stared Marlon Brando and Trever Howard and was basically an updated version of the 1935 film. In 1984, Mel Gibson took over and not only stared in the movie but directed it as well. Mel Gibson's co-star was Anthony Hopkins who played a captivating roll as the ships Captain. Full of action, violence, treachery and disloyalty this movie will grab you from the beginning.

3:10 to Yuma (Original: 1957, Remake: 2007)

Everyone loves a good western movie and when they are done right you can almost imagine yourself in that time period. The original movie stared Glenn Ford and Van Heflin and for its time, this movie was considered a great hit in the box office. The remake stared Christian Bale and Russell Crow. The character that Russell Crow played was that of a gun-slinging outlaw always looking for trouble. This movie remake had a well-developed story and lots of action.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Original: 1974, Remake: 2003)

Both movies are based on true events that took place in the early 1970 in the state of Texas. The 1974 movie was scary enough back then, now you add special effects and more blood and gore, what you end up with is a gruesome and vivid horror that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The remake in 2007 staring Jessica Beal was an awesome thriller all the way to the end of the movie, definitely better than the original.
