Homage to Money

Austin Post
O money! O money! Dearest friend and dearest foe,
'Tis thy love the source of evil, with no doubt this I know.

O money! O money! So much pain have you caused,
Yet the lack of your presence still results in comfort lost.

O money! O money! God of men and god of Earth,
You wrap our lives around you from our very birth.

O money! O money! Tool of Mammon, tool of woe,
Yet for your great enticement there is no man who says, "No!"

O money! O money! Lust of woman man's life has ruined,
But the statistics pale in comparison to the lives ruined for you.

O money! O money! My fuel and my desire,
Would it not be better if you burned upon the pyre?

O money! O money! I cannot live without thee,
But yea it'd be a better world if more things could be free.

O money! O money! Quench of hunger, source of heat,
You are my sole provider from my freezing on the street.

O money! O money! Tyrant of our world,
Why cannot the sacred flag of freedom we unfurl.

O money! O money! How we all hateth thee,
But find ourselves back to you again, summoned by our need!
