Homage to Restless Acorns

They're Hard as Rain and Soft as Soil

Crawdad Nelson
O bitter vitamins,
protected nuts!
rolling into holes
becoming oak--O hard
polished collared rain
spreading into meadows,
rolling down the hill--
moon replacing moon,
solitary thinking scattered
over solitary ground!
O tender bodies resting
one by one.
