The biggest consideration when planning a child's birthday party is where your child wants to have the party. If you decided to have your child's birthday party at a large venue, when your child only wants to have a few kids over at the house, then you could face a big party day disappointment. Sure, big parties for kids are all the rage, but can your child handle it? Even if the "away" party is not large, if your child wishes to have a quiet party at home, why not?
The next consideration to make when planning a child's birthday party is the cost. You can save a lot of money when you have the party at home. But, do you really? If you choose to have the party at home, are you the type of parent that will go "all out" to purchase lots of decorations and accessories to get the look and feel of the party theme? If you are, then maybe having a party at another location would be cheaper. The venue probably has all the decorations and atmosphere you need so you will save money there. Also, you might want to consider the fact that many of these party venues will require payment up front. This could be a problem in more ways than one. What if you don't have all the money then? Or, what if you pay the money and then need to cancel for some reason? What if you need to add kids to the invite list at the last minute-will you be able to do that? The bottom line is that you have to take an honest look at your budget before you begin planning.
Of course, planning a birthday party in a location other than your house does take a lot of stress off of you. When you book a party at a place that specializes in hosting children's birthday parties, most of the time, all you need to do is show up with the cake and treat bags. The party host will take care of everything from set up to clean up. Remember that you probably have a time limit, too, so you might feel rushed during the party. If you have a small house and your child wants to invite several kids, then you will certainly want to consider having the party at another location besides your home.
On the other hand, you may be a parent that likes to plan parties and love getting into the spirit of party planning. If you have the party at home you have total control over every aspect of the party. If you need more time for serving cake, or the kids want to play a game just one more time, then there is no need to worry about fitting the party into an allotted time. Your child can enjoy the party and unwrap gifts at his or her leisure. There is no need to worry about another party coming in on top of your child's party.
Another consideration to make is to think about the age of the children and what to do if there are any emergencies. If you have very young children attending the party, you and the other parents may feel uncomfortable letting them lose in a crowded bounce house play center or skating rink. Small children can feel overwhelmed by these types of large parties. If you have it at home, you know where the children are and what is going on at all times. Also, what if you have it somewhere else and there is an accident? Are you prepared for such emergencies?
When it comes to planning a child's birthday party, there are so many considerations to make. You will certainly want to take your child's preference into consideration and then make your plans accordingly. There is no right or wrong way to plan a party and most parents have experinced both home and "away" parties for children.
