Home Business Tips: The Pitfalls of Multilevel Businesses

Timothy Scheiman
If you ever thought about owning a home based business this article is for you. There are literally hundreds of legitimate businesses you can start either offline or online. Some of these companies have been in business for a long time. However, there are some pitfalls to owning or starting businesses of this type. In this article I intend to explore some of things you need to know before you launch out into this new business.

Recruiting

Current estimates tell us that more than 95% of these types of businesses fail because the average person cannot recruit people. If you are not good at recruiting people most likely you will fail. There will be a lot of trial and error trying to find a way to recruit that works for you. Many start off with a bang only to become frustrated that their business is not growing fast enough. The majority who have trouble recruiting quit within six months and blame the product or the company. The truth is multilevel businesses are difficult to be successful doing if your not good and network marketing.

Upline

Your upline is the person above you who recruited you. Most people in multilevel businesses who are successful cannot help you to get your business going cause they have no clue. They will tell you what works for them but it may not be duplicable for you. To be honest multilevel is a numbers game once your recruited your usually forgotten and on your own. Some companies have excellent helps and training. These are the type of businesses you should look for. Some companies have groups who are dedicated to each others success. If you are going to join this is what you need to look for.

Downline builders

Some businesses online can build a downline for you very quickly. The problem with this is that there are personal volume requirements before you can make any money. Building a downline that can build you income over time takes a lot of work. At first the only people who are making money is those above you and the company. You will find some requirements for commissions very confusing. Its not enough just to recruit people but those people need to recruit and purchase the product. One quick note companies that want you to sign up your family and friends stay away from. They are playing a numbers game and don't really care about you.

Personal volume

One of the first steps to creating personal volume is each and every month you and your downline must purchase the product. This can present a problem when some requirements can be up to $100 out of your pocket each month. Many companies if you don't sign up for the product to be auto shipped each month you will never make commission. Even if you have met all the requirements you will not receive commission if you don't purchase the product yourself.

Complicated matrix

A matrix is your downline structure. Some of these matrix can be very confusing. They are not clear as to when or where you will qualify to make any money and exactly how many downline members who purchase the product you will need. Its no wonder some people become frustrated and quit.

Company claims

Before you decide on what company you want to go with you need to do some research. Find out if what they claim is true. Every business out there will claim they are the best. What kind of training do they offer? Will someone always be there to help? Will you be left to fend for yourself? These are some of the questions you need to answer. How many successful people do they have? What are the costs?

You can make these businesses work and build yourself a good income for life but it is not easy. If you start a business like this make sure you have plenty of good support. These kinds of businesses are not for everybody and only a small majority ever make it big.
