If you are a dog lover, you know how much extra work it can be to keep your house clean. We love our dogs, but loving a dog adds a whole new dimension to house cleaning. Not only do you have your regular house-cleaning chores, but you have to clean up after Fido. With a little bit of organization and time each week, you can keep your house in tip-top shape. Just concentrate on a few hidden areas that you might not think of.
Yard
A lot of dog owners forget to clean up their yards. When Fifi uses the restroom outside, go with her and pick up after her. I have two big dogs, so I go out at dusk every day and police my yard - this gives me time to enjoy the sunset and get some fresh air (there is always a breeze blowing here in Kansas). And picking up after your dog will ensure that you don't get any "surprises" when you are enjoying your yard or entertaining guests outside.
Under Furniture
Whether you have a long-haired or short-haired pooch, you vacuum a lot. Don't forget to run the vacuum under furniture where fur blows like tumbleweeds. You may also wish to invest in a self-vacuuming device that can get under furniture without moving it.
Bedding and Toys
Don't forget your dog's bedding and toys. If they can't be put in the washer and dryer, spray them with a mild disinfectant to keep them clean and smelling fresh.
Smells and Odors
Dog lovers are used to the way their homes smell. It's not an offensive odor, it's just a smell of pets. Keep ascented warmer or a plug-in room freshener on hand to eliminate smells for visitors. Don't use candles - your dog can get hurt and possibly start a fire while your back is turned.
Baseboards
A lot of dust and fur collect on floors up against the baseboards. Use the pet attachment or hose of your vacuum to thoroughly pull the fur and dust out before it accumulates.
