Materials:
Three 20-by-3-inch strips of fabric
Iron
Needle
Thread
Shank button
Hot glue gun
Fabric trim such as ball fringe or bead fringe
Step 1
Fold the fabric strip in half lengthwise with the right side of the fabric on the outside. Press the fold.
Step 2
Unfold the strip of fabric. Fold the edges of the fabric lengthwise in to meet the crease running down the center. Press these folds and refold the fabric in half along the center crease.
Step 3
Push the needle and thread up through the center crease at one end of the strip. Thread a shank button onto the needle and thread. Sew a few stitches through the shank button and center crease of the fabric strip to tack the button in place.
Step 4
Wrap the fabric strip around the shank of the button twice. Sew through the layers of the wrapped fabric, while also sewing through the shank of the button to secure the fabric and wrapped fabric in place to form the center a fabric flower.
Step 5
Turn the fabric strip out and down at a 90-degree angle. Wrap the folded portion of the fabric strip around the center of the flower. Fold the fabric down and out again and wrap that portion of the fabric strip. Keep folding and wrapping until all but the last 1-to-2 inches of the fabric strip are left. Fold this portion of the strip of fabric to the underside of the flower.
Step 6
Sew a few stitches on the bottom side of the fabric to secure the layers of the wrapped fabric flower together. Create fabric flowers in the same manner with the other two strips of fabric.
Step 7
Use dots of hot glue to secure the fabric flowers to the lamp's shade in a triangular cluster near the bottom of the shade so they are off center when you look straight forward at the shade.
Step 8
Use a thin line of hot glue to attach your fabric trim around the top and bottom edges of the lamp shade. Wrap the trim from the back, around the front and back around to the back. Trim the fabric trim to length so the ends of the trim come together.
Tips:
Adjust the width and length of the fabric strips you use to make flowers of different sizes.
