For this project, you will need:
- Tin double switch plate (such as the one found here at Viking Wood Crafts)
- "Rose Background" Mounted Rubber Stamp (found online here at Stampin.com)
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Glossy Black
- Krylon Short Cuts Brush On Paint in Red Pepper
- Krylon Short Cuts Brush On Paint in Gloss White
- Sponge brush
- Artist's paintbrush
- Acrylic finishing spray
- Screwdriver
- Newspaper
Due to the use of spray paints within this project, the best work area to use will be well ventilated and coated with newspaper.
Lay the tin double switch plate flat on your work area. Coat the switch plate entirely (front and back) with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Allow the primed tin to dry for an hour or longer before continuing.
Spray the tin with two even coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Glossy Black. Let the paint set for fifteen to twenty minutes before adding additional coats. Continue to add additional coats until you have reached a desired black color, and no white primer is showing through. Make sure the paint is completely dry before continuing to the next step.
With the sponge brush, apply a thick coat of Krylon Short Cuts Brush On Paint in Gloss White to the "Rose Background" Mounted Rubber Stamp. Gently press the stamp onto the tin switch plate. (It is okay if some of the design is cut off by the switch openings in the metal. This is part of the look.) Let the paint dry until it is no longer tacky.
Fill in the details of the rose using an artist's paintbrush and Krylon Short Cuts Brush On Paint in Red Pepper. Add additional outlining and floral details as desired. Let the paint dry for several hours.
Spray the tin with acrylic finishing spray. Dry the switch plate overnight. Install the cover with two new screws into the outlet as directed.
TIP: If you are looking for an aged and vintage look, consider "roughing up" the paint a bit. Rub a bit of medium grit sandpaper over the tin in various places to create an antiqued, aged appearance.
