Fiber artists who are into home décor craft projects will benefit from sorting through the bins of fabric remnants at local fabric shops. While these small scraps of fabric left over from larger fabric rolls are no more than a couple of yards and less and are sold at discounted prices, they can be put to great use when you desire to organize, protect, repair, or decorate your home furnishings. This project involves hemming the length edges with a sewing machine and hand sewing Velcro along the width edges. I was very satisfied with the turnout of the arm rest coverings and recommend this project for both the prevention and repair of cracked vinyl arm rests.

Decorating Cardboard Storage Boxes and Containers

For those who regularly receive shipments in cardboard boxes and are avid recyclers, decorating these boxes with fabric remnants and using them for storage is an ideal home décor craft project. This idea requires no sewing - only fabric, a glue gun, and glue sticks. By creating a color scheme where the fabric boxes match the walls, one will be amazed with the achieved eco-friendly room makeover. A great tip for enlivening a room is to decorate various sized boxes and containers with floral print fabrics. With a one-yard remnant of cotton fabric, I have sewn a pillow case for a pillow measuring 20 inches in circumference width by 26 inches in circumference length. I have also combined 13-inch by 17-inch upholstery fabric samples to sew awesome pillows.

Sewers are sure to discover lovely sheer or thin, pastel fabric remnants in clearance bins at fabric shops. One yard is enough to sew curtains that cover a 20-inch by 30-inch kitchen window. This project simply involves measuring, cutting, and hemming.
