Home Decor Crafts: Black and White Polka Dot Embellished Apothecary Jars

Decorative apothecary jars make for interesting bathroom or living space decor. Or, consider using these adorable black and white polka dot embellished apothecary jars as part of your next party's decorations!

For this project, you will need (per apothecary jar):

- One clear glass apothecary jar in any size with removable lid (available at home decor and craft supply shops)
- Mild dish detergent
- Water
- Paper towels
- Black scrapbook paper
- Black and white polka dots scrapbook paper
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Cardstock
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Elmer's glue stick
- Sponge brush
- Mod Podge or other similar style decoupage medium
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Newsprint and/or a large drop cloth

Before starting this adorable apothecary jar project, cover the space in which you will be crafting it with several sheets of old newsprint and/or a large sized drop cloth. Carefully wash the apothecary jar and removable lid with a mild dish detergent. Rinse the glass pieces well with water. Wipe down the entire jar and lid with paper towels. Set the lid aside, as it will not be used until the very end of this project. Turn the apothecary jar upside down to continue air drying for about an hour.

Place the sheet of black scrapbook paper flat on the self healing mat. With a ruler, determine how much paper will be needed to wrap around the outside of the apothecary jar horizontally. Mark this by creating a rectangle on the black scrapbook paper in pencil that is two inches high by the length determined. Carefully cut out the rectangle from the black paper with a craft knife.

Place the sheet of black and white polka dot scrapbook paper flat on the self healing mat. Just as you previously did, create a rectangle shape on the paper in pencil. This rectangle should be the same length as the former one, but only one inch high. Cut out the rectangle with a craft knife.

Use a bit of Elmer's glue stick to mat the polka dot rectangle into the center of the plain black paper rectangle. Once the glue has dried, apply a generous amount of Mod Podge or other similar style decoupage medium to the back of the paper with a sponge brush. Immediately adhere the paper around the apothecary jar. Smooth away any bubbles in the paper by pressing firmly with your fingertips. Let the jar dry for several hours.

Spray the entire apothecary jar with a light coat of Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Let the project dry overnight before replacing the lid and enjoying.

TIP: For use in a feminine baby shower or party, use bright pink paper instead of solid black. Fill with candy or other goodies for your guests to enjoy.
