Home Decor Crafts: Camouflage Barstools

Landra Lynn Jacobs
Camouflage has become a popular trend is sassy home decor. This fun camouflage barstool project would make a great addition to a teenage bedroom or adult game room. Also, consider this design for the "man cave" in your home.

For this project, you will need (per barstool):

- One unfinished wooden barstool (available at craft supply and furniture supply shops)
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or other type of soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in a coordinating color (This will depend on the color of camouflage print you use.)
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Camouflage print scrapbook paper
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Sponge brush
- Mod Podge or other decoupage medium
- Craft roller or other similar type tool
- Newspaper and/or a large sized drop cloth

Before starting this camouflage barstool project, cover the space you will be working at with sheets of old newspaper and/or a large sized drop cloth. Very carefully sand down the outside of the unfinished barstool with a sheet or two of medium or fine grit sandpaper. Wipe down the barstool using a tack cloth or other style soft cloth. Make sure you remove all grit and dust created by the sanding process from the surface of the wood.

Prime the outside of the entire barstool using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Dry for an hour. Paint the outside of the barstool with six to seven even coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in a coordinating color. Allow the barstool to dry overnight before proceeding.

Use a ruler and a pencil to determine the area needed to cover the entire seat of the painted barstool. Place a sheet of camouflage print scrapbook paper onto a self healing mat. In pencil, trace the design needed to cover the seat onto the paper. Carefully cut out the paper piece with a craft knife.

Coat the back of the camouflage paper piece using a thick layer of Mod Podge or other similar style decoupage medium. Immediately adhere the paper to the painted barstool seat. Smooth the camouflage paper with a craft roller or other similar tool to remove air bubbles and prevent wrinkling. Dry completely.

Spray the entire barstool with an even layer of Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Once dried, enjoy your new camouflage barstool creation.
