Home Decor Crafts: Giraffe Print Accent Table

Landra Lynn Jacobs
Giraffe print is hot in home decor right now. This chic and super easy to create giraffe print accent table is perfect for a bedroom, living room, foyer, or hall space.

For this project, you will need (per accent table):

- One unfinished wooden accent table (available at hardware stores or craft supply shops)
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or other type of soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Satin Brown Boots
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Giraffe print scrapbook paper (available at scrapbook supply and craft supply shops)
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Mod Podge or other decoupage medium
- Sponge brush
- Craft roller
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth

Cover your work area with a large sized drop cloth and/or a few sheets of old newspaper. Use a couple pieces of medium or fine grit sandpaper to smooth the surface of an unfinished wooden accent table. Take extra care to smooth away any rough are knotty areas on the table. Wipe away any dust on the wood with a tack cloth or other type of soft cloth.

Prime the entire table using three or more layers of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. You should not be able to see any wood grain through the primer. If so, continue to add layers of primer. Allow the primed table to dry for a couple hours or until the primer is not longer tacky to touch. Paint the table with several coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Satin Brown Boots. Keep adding paint coats until you reach a rich brown shade. Let the table dry overnight before continuing to the gluing stage.

Place a few sheets of giraffe print scrapbook paper onto the self healing mat. Determine the amount of paper needed to cover the entire accent table top. Subtract a half an inch to this measurement all around. Use a ruler and pencil to mark the measurement on the printed paper. Carefully cut out the design from the giraffe print paper using a craft knife for sharper edges.

Apply a thick coat of Mod Podge or other decoupage medium to the giraffe print paper using a sponge brush. Adhere the paper in the center of the brown painted accent table, leaving a half inch gap of exposed paint border all around. Smooth the paper with a craft roller to prevent any wrinkling. Let the glue dry for a few hours.

Spray the entire table top using four or five coats of Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Allow the giraffe print accent table to dry overnight before enjoying.
