For this project, you will need:
- One wooden dresser in fairly good condition
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or other style soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Watermelon
- Leopard print scrapbook paper
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Mod Podge or other decoupage medium
- Sponge brush
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
Cover your dresser crafting area with old newspaper sheets and/or a large drop cloth. Remove any hardware from the dresser prior to starting. Carefully sand the front of the dresser cabinet and the fronts of any drawers with sheets of medium or fine grit sandpaper. Wipe away any dust or debris on the cabinet and drawer fronts with a tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth.
Prime the entire dresser base cabinet and drawer fronts with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Keep adding several additional coat of primer until the wood grain underneath is no longer showing. Let the primed wood dry completely. Paint the dresser and drawer fronts using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Watermelon. Allow all pieces to dry overnight.
Decide how much leopard print scrapbook paper is needed to cover the drawer fronts. Lay the scrapbook paper face down on the self healing mat. Mark the measurement directly onto the paper in pencil. (This may take several sheets to complete one drawer front.) Cut out the pieces from the printed scrapbook paper.
Apply thick coats of Mod Podge or other decoupage medium to the back of the leopard print scrapbook paper pieces. Immediately adhere the paper to the drawer fronts. Smooth the leopard print paper with a craft roller to prevent any wrinkling. Let the decoupage glue dry for several hours.
Spray each drawer front using a few thick coats of Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Let the dresser dry overnight before reinstalling the hardware to the drawer fronts and inserting the drawers into the main cabinet.
TIP: This project also looks great when done in a teal blue color instead of a pink! Consider Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Satin Catalina Mist a great option.
