Landra Lynn Jacobs
Decorative waste baskets are perfect for many guest bathrooms or home office spaces. This simple sheet music embellished waste basket is perfect for the music aficionado in your life.

For this project, you will need (per waste basket):

- One round plastic waste basket
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black
- Krylon Spray Adhesive
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Measuring tape
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Music note shaped stencil
- Sheet music
- Black cardstock
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth

Cover the space you are crafting your waste basket project with newspaper and/or a large drop cloth. Sand and scuff the outside of a round plastic waste basket with medium or fine grit sandpaper. Wipe down the outside of the plastic with a tack cloth or other similar type of soft cloth.

Turn the plastic waste basket upside down on the workspace. Prime the outside and bottom of the waste basket using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Let the primer cure for about an hour. Paint the entire outside and bottom of the plastic waste basket with several coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black. Allow the project to dry overnight before continuing onto the next step.

Lay the sheet music paper note side down on a self healing mat. Use a measuring tape to determine how much paper is needed to wrap around the entire waste basket horizontally, minus a half inch at the top and bottom. (By subtracting a half inch at the top and bottom, this will leave an exposed area of black paint on the finished waste basket.) Use a pencil to mark this rectangle shape onto the back of the sheet music paper. Cut out the paper piece with a craft knife.

Place a sheet of black cardstock on the self healing mat. In pencil, trace the note shaped stencils onto the paper. Cut out the designs with a craft knife. Spray the back of the cardstock note shapes with Krylon Spray Adhesive. Adhere the notes onto the sheet music. Dry completely.

Spray the back of the sheet music with Krylon Spray Adhesive. Adhere the paper to the side of the waste basket. (Again, a half inch at the top and a half inch at the bottom should be exposed.) Allow the glue to set for a couple hours. Turn the waste basket upside down and spray the entire project with Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Dry overnight before using your new waste basket creation.
