Home Decor Crafts: Sheet Music Wall Sconces

Landra Lynn Jacobs
Decorative wall sconces are a great way to liven up a hall or living room space. These whimsical sheet music wall sconces take only a bit of time to make but are quite eye catching!

For this project, you will need (per wall sconce):

- Mountable wall sconce that requires two small paper lampshades
- Two small paper lampshades
- Sheet music
- Tea bag
- Shallow pan of warm water
- Black tempura paint
- Paper plate
- Toothbrush
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Krylon Spray Adhesive
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Newspaper, craft paper, and/or a large drop cloth

Cover the workspace with craft paper, newspaper sheets, and/or a large drop cloth prior to starting your sconce project. Place the sheet music paper flat on the work area. Dip the tea bag into the shallow pan of warm water to saturate it. Dab the tea bag onto the sheet music paper to stain it and add an "aged" appeal. Let the sheet music paper dry completely.

Pour a bit of black tempura paint onto a paper plate. Dip the bristles of a toothbrush into the tempura paint. Use the pad of your thumb to flick the bristles so that drops of the tempura paint splatter over the sheet music paper. Allow the black paint to dry completely.

Use a ruler to determine the exact amount of paper needed to cover one of the small lampshades. Mark this measurement in pencil onto the sheet music paper twice, one for each lampshade you will be covering. Very carefully cut out these shapes from the sheet music with a craft knife.

Spray the back of one sheet music paper piece with Krylon Spray Adhesive. Wrap the paper around one of the small lampshades to secure it in place. (Overlap 1/8 or 1/4 of an inch at the back, if necessary.) Smooth the paper with your fingers to prevent wrinkling. Repeat this for the second lampshade. Spray both small lampshades with Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Dry completely.

Mount the wall sconce on the wall. Install the small paper lampshade onto the wall sconce and enjoy your finished project.

TIP: Mount two of these fun sheet music wall sconces on either side of a sofa for a whimsical living room design. (This will usually require four sheet music lampshades; two per sconce.)
