Home Decor Crafts: Sheet Music Wrapped Vases

Landra Lynn Jacobs
This sheet music wrapped vase project looks excellent on a mantle piece for fall and is incredibly simple to create. Fill with dried flowers, fresh sunflowers, or another bright arrangement when completed.

For this project, you will need (per vase):

- One cylinder style clear glass vase
- Soap and water
- Paper towels
- Sheet music
- Black ink pad
- Sponge brush
- Toothbrush
- Small spray bottle filled with water
- Tea bags
- Small pan of warm water
- Scissors
- Krylon Spray Adhesive
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth

The ink portion of this project is incredibly messy, thus it is advised to first cover your work area with a few sheets of newspaper and/or a large drop cloth prior to starting. Wash the cylinder style clear glass vase with soap and water. Dry the exterior of the vase well with paper towels. Turn the vase upside down on additional paper towels to dry for several hours to allow any remaining moisture to dissipate off the surface of the glass.

Lay several sheets of sheet music out onto the work area. Using a small spray bottle, dampen the paper slightly. Add tears to the paper to make it appear slightly "aged". Dip tea bags into a small pan of warm water. Smear the tea bags across the sheet music to add an additional antique appeal. Let the damp sheet music dry completely.

Use a sponge brush dipped in ink from a black ink pad to add a small amount of ink to the edges of the aged sheet music. Use a toothbrush to add ink "splatter" to the paper. (To do this, dip the toothbrush bristles in the ink pad. Use the pad of your thumb to flick the bristles so that the ink splatters across the sheet music paper.) Again, let the paper dry completely.

Cut the sheet music so that it wraps around the cylinder style clear glass vase. Spray the back of the sheet music using Krylon Spray Adhesive. Adhere the paper to the outside of the glass vase. Once dried, cover the entire outside of the vase using several generous coats of Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Dry overnight before inserting your floral arrangement and enjoying.

TIP: You can add additional details to the outside of this vase using Mod Podge or other decoupage medium and a sponge brush. A few ideas include vintage black and white photos or paper lettering.
