Home Decor Crafts: Teal and Brown Squares Dining Table

Landra Lynn Jacobs
A unique table is an easy way to add style to a dining space. This teal and brown squares dining table project transforms an ordinary piece into something special.

For this project, you will need:

- One wooden dining table
- Several dozen wooden Scrabble game board tiles
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Satin Brown Boots
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Bahama Sea
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Satin Catalina Mist
- Epoxy glue
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Newspaper and or a large drop cloth

(You will want to start with a wooden dining table that is free from any paint and/or stain prior to starting. If you are using a brand new, unfinished wooden table then go ahead and skip to the first steps in this project. If you are refurbishing a table, use paint thinner and/or stripper and tons of sanding first.)

Cover your workspace with sheets of newspaper and/or a large drop cloth. Sand the table using medium or fine grit sandpaper. Use a tack cloth or other similar soft cloth to wipe away any dust from the surface of the wood. Prime the entire wooden dining table using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Dry for an hour before painting the table with four to five thick coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Satin Brown Boots. Allow the table to dry fully.

Sand each of the Scrabble game board tiles with medium or fine grit sandpaper. As mentioned before, wipe away any dust using a tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth. Prime each of the game board tiles. Divide the tiles into two groups. Paint one group of wooden tiles using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Bahama Sea. Paint the second group of wooden tiles using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Satin Catalina Mist. Dry overnight.

Use a ruler and a pencil to divide the outside edge of the tabletop into one inch sections. Apply a generous amount of epoxy glue to one painted game board tile and adhere it letter side down on the table. Press firmly. Repeat this with the remaining Scrabble game board tiles until the entire tabletop has a one tile width border. Allow the glue to dry completely before using the table.

TIP: This project can also be completed in other color styles. A black painted table mixed with white tiles looks fantastic and quite contemporary!
