Home Decor Crafts: Teal & Damask Print Dining Table

Landra Lynn Jacobs
Instead of purchasing a new dining set, why not dress up your existing piece into something much more whimsical and fun? This teal and damask print dining table takes a bit of time to create but looks great when finished!

For this project, you will need:

- One wooden dining table in fairly good condition
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Bahama Sea
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Black and white damask print scrapbook paper (available at craft supply and scrapbook supply shops)
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Craft knife
- Sponge brush
- Mod Podge or other decoupage medium
- Medium sized craft roller
- Newsprint and/or a large sized drop cloth

Before starting your dining table project, make sure the wood is free from any paints and/or stains. If not, use a bit of paint stripper according to manufacturer directions first. Cover your dining table crafting area with sheets of old newsprint and/or a large sized drop cloth. Use a moderate amount of pressure to sand down the entire table using medium or fine grit sandpaper. Wipe down the dining table using a tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth to remove any dust from the wood.

Prime the entire table using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. (Depending on the size of the table, this may take several cans.) Keep applying coats of primer until you can no longer see the wood color and/or wood grain underneath. Once the primer has completely dried, paint the table with five or more coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Bahama Sea. Let the table set overnight before continuing.

Place several sheets of black and white damask print scrapbook paper face down on the self healing mat. Use a ruler to determine how much paper is needed to cover the dining table top. Mark this size onto several sheets of printed scrapbook paper in pencil. Carefully trim the paper to size and arrange it on the dining table top.

Apply a thick coat of Mod Podge or other decoupage medium to the back of each damask print paper piece. Immediately adhere the printed paper to the dining table top. Continue adding paper pieces until the entire table top is completely covered. Smooth the paper using a medium sized craft roller. Let the decoupage medium dry completely.

Spray the entire dining table with a few thick coats of Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Dry overnight before enjoying your whimsical new dining table!
