Landra Lynn Jacobs
A zebra print accent or two in your living space can be a subtle way of adding sassy style! This zebra print footstool project is an easy way to turn an existing piece into something stylish.

For this project, you will need (per footstool):

- One unfinished wooden footstool (available at craft supply stores) or one refurbished wooden footstool
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or other type of soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Zebra print scrapbook paper (available at scrapbook supply stores)
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Sponge brush
- Mod Podge or other decoupage medium
- Small craft roller
- Newspaper and/or a large sized drop cloth

Before you begin your zebra print footstool project, cover the area in which you will be working at with sheets of old newspaper and/or a large sized drop cloth. If the stool has any previous paint or stain on it, make sure it is completely removed before you start this project. Sand the entire outside of the wooden step stool using medium or fine grit sandpaper sheets. Wipe down the outside of the stool using a tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth to remove all grit created by sanding.

Prime the outside of the stool using an even layer of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Let the stool set for about an hour. Paint the stool using four to five moderate coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black. Allow the stool to dry for three or four hours before proceeding.

Lay the zebra print scrapbook paper face down on the self healing mat. Use a ruler and a pencil to create sections of the paper big enough to cover the entire top of the painted footstool. Cut out the sections from the zebra print paper with a craft knife.

Apply a thick coat of Mod Podge or other decoupage medium directly onto the back of the zebra print paper with a sponge brush. Immediately adhere the paper to the top of the footstool. Smooth out the paper using a small craft roller. Wipe away any excess glue with a damp soft cloth. Let the decoupage medium dry completely. Coat the stool using five to seven thick coats of Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Dry overnight before using the footstool.
