Home Decorating Ideas for Kwanzaa

Bill Smith
Kwanzaa is approaching very fast, and you might not know how to decorate your home yet for the holiday. If you are trying to figure out how to decorate for Kwanzaa, you might want to try some of these great ideas.

Curtains are a great way to decorate your home for Kwanzaa and can provide a festive atmosphere in your home. If you are wondering about how to decorate for Kwanzaa, simply put up some new curtains. For Kwanzaa, you should be thinking of a red, green, and black color scheme since these are the essential colors of Kwanzaa. You can find some red, green, and black thick twine at your local craft store for about 20 dollars or less. You can use twine that is of another color and simply paint them red, green, and black if you can not find the twine in those colors. The twine will need to be braided since this is a festive decoration of the African culture. After you have braided the twine, you can hang the braided twine up like a curtain in your kitchen or doorway. Although the colored and braided twine might not cover your window like a real curtain, you can use it as an entrance curtain to other rooms in your house or you can have a bamboo curtain up with the twine as a decorative addition.

You can also decorate your home for Kwanzaa by using a wicker basket and adding mazao which are fruits of the harvest. Fruits of the harvest are an essential part of Kwanzaa and they are one of the seven symbols of Kwanzaa. A wicker basket is considered a symbol of African culture and can be placed on your dining table or near your door as a decorative piece. You can also use the wicker basket as a decorative base for your candles during Kwanzaa to add a little more inspiration in your house. You can get a wicker basket at your local retail or craft store for about 20 dollars and you can find fruits of the harvest at your local grocery store.

If you have some African ceramics or African art that you bought, you can decorate your home by placing a couple pieces of the African art around your house. You can put a couple African ceramics on your table, in your bathroom, and on your fireplace mantle if you have one. By getting out some of your African-inspired art or ceramics, you can help decorate your home for Kwanzaa. If you do not have any African-inspired art or ceramics you can go to the craft store or local art stores and pick up some little ceramics for about 40 dollars.

You can also hang the African-American Unity flag outside or on your front door, if you are looking to decorate for Kwanzaa. The flag is a significant symbol for Kwanzaa and it has red, black, and green in it which are the colors of Kwanzaa. You can either add the flag somewhere so that other people can see it or you can hang the flag in your bedroom or bathroom as a reminder of what Kwanzaa means. If you do not have a Kwanzaa flag, then you can make your own with some construction paper in red, black, and green or you could find one at your local religious store for about 10 dollars.
