Sarah Sendi

Decorating your home for Christmas can be an important part of the holiday season. It is what gets you in the spirit of the things. One useful approach to decorating your home this season is to make it a feast for all the senses. Here are a few ideas that may inspire you.

Sounds of Christmas

Most people play a variety of Christmas music collections from the classic songs such as "I'm dreaming of a White Christmas", to a current favorite. You can even get a continuous sound track from the radio or the TV. But there are other ways of bring the sound of Christmas into your home.

• Attach a tassel or a bell with a personalized tag to each door with a message of season greetings. You can use a small reindeer bell or maybe make a beaded chain to remind you of the time and place when ever you open the door.

• Join a group of carolers or hire a group to come to a family gathering

Feel of Christmas

Look about for warm rich textures to add to the cozy feel of Christmas

• Cover your pillows with materials like velvet and choose colors like deep blue, red, green or purple.

• Attach pom-poms of white fake fur onto your pillows.

• Buy or make afghan throws or flannel blankets and drape them onto your sofa and bed

A Taste of Christmas

There is always plenty of things to eat during the season, most people have a little candy in a bowl on the coffee table or some cookies stashed away somewhere. Try

• Placing a little tray in each bedroom with snacks. You can arrange an attractive array of cookies and candy, wrapped in special paper or a little sachet of hot chocolate with a seasonal mug on a tray or even a basket.
• Not really for taste but Christmas is stressful. Make a little bag or basket for you or your loved ones with things designed to pamper. For example, you could put in a bottle of bubble bath, a relaxing CD, or some massage gadgets.

• When throwing tinsel all over the tree, why not add a little to your every day potted plants.

• Replace regular pictures with photos of family. Select pictures of your loved ones especially people who have passed away and people who are far from home such as those serving in Iraq. After all this holiday season has become an important time for people to be with family.
