Home Depot Kraftmaid Kitchen Cabinets Review

Sea Shepherd
I found that Home Depot had qualified kitchen cabinet designers. Our designer especially listened to what we wanted and came up with the perfect design. For $120, we were able to see a sketch. With that sketch we could go to anyone to get a bid or just use Home Depot. If we used Home Depot it would be applied towards the price. We opted to use Home Depot because of the great sketch our kitchen cabinet designer shown us and because we were able to defer the cost, unlike other places, for a year.

We wanted to remodel our kitchen and had heard of all sorts of horror stories about Home Depot. So, we elected to check elsewhere. We went to semi custom stores and found it way beyond what we wanted to spend. Now, my theme was going to be a Tuscan kitchen. I have a small home with a small kitchen. So this was going to be a challenge. I also had a lot of statues that I wanted displayed in the cabinets, so that I would not need a china cabinet which would take up floor space.

Most of the other places we checked wouldn't even give us a design unless we provided them the contract. All they would do is talk in generalities. One generality they gave us was the cost. For a semi custom job, we were looking at $30,000 easily without the appliances, sink, counter tops, or extra frills. Well, we finally decided to check out Home Depot and see what we personally could find out.

A clever way when you have a small kitchen and connected living room is to create extra small cabinets, called bistro cabinets, on top of your cabinets. They look great and you won't need a china cabinet. What would have cost me $30,000 for semi custom cabinets, instead cost me about $16,000 for Kitchen Kraft Cabinets which look just as good. In fact, when people come into my house, they think I had it customed made. All we did is custom the design. It is also a good idea to bring in any pictures of kitchen designs that you would like to explore. You might not be able to have the exact design due to your space however, this gives the designer an idea of what your taste is like in a kitchen design.

It is not cheap to redo your kitchen. However, renovating a kitchen is the best dollar for dollar costs back to you. We sold a home a few miles away and decided to scale down as we approach our retirement. We had a smaller home that we rented out for two years. My goal was to create a Tuscan villa. We moved in and now we have our own Tuscan villa . Home Depot came through for us. We have used Home Depot in many of our renovations. Nothing is 100% smooth all the time, but overall we are very pleased with Home Depot.

The kitchen designer in Hackettstown, NJ was a pushy know it all who didn't listen to a thing we said. The kitchen designer at Lowes spent a ton of time on a custom island and gave us a CAD drawing for free. Will definitely be using Lowes

Kraftmaid cabinets we received, and continue to be delivered piecemeal, are damaged, doors hung improperly, etc. Neither Lowes nor Kraftmaid are helpful at all. How many months must I go without a kitchen? DO NOT BUY KRAFTMAID!

Well, I"m not a designer just have good taste! LOL! Seriously, I have had a lot of compliments on these cabinets. I just sold my home this year and had put it up for 2 weeks...with 5 Realtors bringing their buyers in telling me it was the picture of the kitchen that attracted their buyer. I had a buyer and sold the home in 2 weeks and I live in Florida where real estate has been hit hard. This is the truth and those cabinets were awesome.

Reading this review it is very hard to believe that it was not written by a Home Depot designer.
    Nice try.

Vipul...mine are Kraftmaid and that is what I wrote about...I have had them now for nearly 3 yrs..love them!,,,never had a problem. And regarding Home Depot..from my experience it all depends on the individual store because they are run individually. I found differences with all the Home Depots I ever used. But these cabinets I bought are as beautful.

I purchased ascentia cabinets from HomeDepot. It is Wilshire with toasted cinnamon. I am extremely unhappy with the quality of the cabinets.
    1) When cabinets arrived none of the door fronts or drawer fronts were adjusted. They all were mounted crossed. When you look at from the front none of them looked straight
    2) The slide in the one drawer was bent so could not be open
    3) Some of the face rims are natural maple and some are toasted cinnamon.
    4) The gaps between the doors are not uniform
    5) Sizes of the drawer fronts are not equal on drawer bank. The width varies by 1/8th inch so there is no way I can adjust the gap.
    6) Toe kick which was sent with the cabinet does not have the same color as cabinet
    7) Home Depot order the new toe kick for me and it came is totally different colors.
    8) I ordered cabinets in early December and still I don't have cabinets completely installed and ready to use. Specifically gaps are non uniform between the doors and I do not have toe kick

I agree with your assessment of the quality of Mills Pride. They are very bad. Horrible workmanship. When I first got the cabinets in 2006, I had to immediately return 3 doors because they were falling apart. Now 2 years later, there are 2 other doors with the trim falling out and 1 glass door that is sagging.

The good thing is warrranty. It is lifetime and I've had no problems getting new doors so far.

I find the product looks good from afar. Once you get closer, you can easily see that quality is seriously compromised.

I probably will never buy Mills Pride again but must say their after purchase service is good.

MY HUSBAND AND I WERE VERY PLEASED WITH THE SERVICE PROVIDED BY THE STAFF OF HOME DEPOT, IN KATY TEXAS. THEY WERE PATIENT AND ANSWERED ALL OF OUR QUESTIONS......HATS OFF YOU YOU GUYS....WE SURVIVED HURRICANE KATRINA, THEN AFTER WE HAD OUR HOME THE WAY WE LIKED IT, A CAR RAN INTO OUR BATHROOM AND TOTALED IT. EVEN WITH THIS BAD CARMA WE WERE ABLE TO REBUILD AGAIN..

One other thing, unless one is willing to spend a fortune, today's craftmanship isn't like it use to be. I don't care what it is. Even finding true wood is hard today. I have real hardwood floors but they are selling this engineer hardwood crap. I have seen them even mansions have them in their home. The only way you can get around this if you do build it yourself.
