Home Drug Testing: Positive or Negative?

Should You Be Drug Testing Your Kids?

Matthew Schieltz
When many parents are faced with the reality that their children and teenagers are involved in illegal drugs, there are many different reactions that they may have. Some parents may turn a blind eye while others might punish their son or daughter for being involved with illegal drugs and drug abuse. However, there should be drug abuse prevention even before parents find out that their children are involved in illegal drug abuse.

Prevention Options

What are some prevention options for parents to deter their kids from using illegal drugs? One option is to drug test your child. Drug tests do not have to be expensive and some brand of drug tests can be purchased from your local medicine shop or even can be bought from the Wal-Mart Pharmacy. As a parent, you have an absolute right to know what your kid is doing and you have a right to know whether he or she is involved with illegal drugs or not.

These home drug kits are very simple. They come in small boxes with precise directions and they usually involve the parent testing their teenager's urine to see whether or not the drug test comes out positive or negative. Depending on which home drug test you use, there are some very sophisticated ones out there that will test for several different types of illegal drug substances. Some drugs that these home drug tests can test for are Oxycodone, marijuana, THC, Cocaine, Methamphetamines, Opiates, Amphetamines, and Benzodiazepines.

What to do if Home Drug Test is Positive

If the home drug test turns out to be positive, the first thing that you should do is confirm the results. However, most times if the result turns out positive your teenager may admit to his or her drug use, but if they don't, you can always have the results confirmed at a local laboratory that specializes in these types of drug tests.

The first inclination of a parent may be to be angry when he or she finds out that their son or daughter is involved in illegal drugs. However, anger should not be the immediate solution, but instead care and concern should follow the positive home drug test. Getting your teenager help is of utmost importance and it's crucial that your teenager knows that you love them and just want to help them. Punishing them won't do any good because it won't stop the drug abuse problem other than the fact that it lets you know that they're abusing illegal substances.

Many parents use home drug tests as an illegal drug deterrent and some even drug test their children randomly. This may or may not be a good idea, of course depending on the child you are dealing with. Some teens may be totally turned off by drugs while others may be attracted to them instantly. It's important to realize the value of a home drug test and know what you can do with it, but using it wisely and in a correct parental manner is most importance when dealing with a teenager that has possibly been involved with illegal drug substances.

I think parents should be aloud to have these test because if their child were doing drugs they would know and get them help. My sister has been acting kinda of funny. I dont know what is going on but I will get to the end of it I dont want my sister to do anything like drug. I think every parent will be happy to own one of these.
