Home Improvement: Free New Looks

Some Free Home Improvement Projects Are Fun

Matt A. Maxx
A nice home improvement project does not have to cost any money. We can take lessons from our grandparents who lived through the Great Depression. Our grandparents knew how to have free new looks in the house without spending money. Plants and recycled goods can lend charm and elegance to any abode for a quick and free pick-me-up.

Free home improvement plant ideas:

Free new looks for inside of the house can come from plants. Pretty plants will grow easily from seeds. These seeds are found inside of the fruits, vegetables, and grains that are being brought home everyday from the grocery store. There is never a need to buy any expensive plants from a nursery for a nice green home improvement project.

~ Beans will grow vines that can run around windows, archways, or anywhere that you need a green vine accent. As a rule-of-thumb, the larger the bean, the bigger the plant leaves will be.

~ Citrus fruit seeds will grow into little trees that have pretty houseplant type of leaves on them. If a few seeds are grown together in one pot, the foliage will look fuller.

~ Squash seeds make nice thick and full looking hanging baskets with huge yellow flowers on them during the summer.

Plant starts are cuttings that come off of plants that are already growing. Put the cutting into an old glass, bottle, or other container of water for it to grow in. Free new looks in this popular green motif can be had as a home improvement quickly. They will happen almost instantly after a casual visit to the local park. To be nice to everybody involved, only take tiny cuttings from the underside of bushy areas of plants in the park.

For a different look, rows of colorful old glasses or jars of plants can be placed over an entire window like a curtain. Do this by adding used boards as shelves across the glass for the jars to sit on. The right size of boards can be found totally free inside of discarded stuffed furniture. Older furniture often comes with very pretty oak window-sized support boards inside. These free new looks for windows are very appealing from both sides of the window.

Home improvement wall idea:

If your house has a bad wall that isn't in the paint budget this year, turn that wall into an artistic mosaic. Home improvement designer mosaics give free new looks for a bad wall and can be done completely with just cardboard and trash items.

Simply place a layer of cardboard over your bad wall. Next, attach colorful cereal boxes and canned goods labels to form a picture or abstract design on the cardboard. When this improvement is done, it will be a striking conversation piece. The cardboard also adds a little temporary insulation to hold the bad wall over until your home improvement finances are in better shape.

Free home improvement projects are easy to think of after you realize how fun it can be to decorate with recycled items and plants. A quick scan through any designer magazine today will show people asking healthy prices for recycled art. It is totally fine to create your own recycled free home improvement projects to delight family and friends. Enjoy!

Fantastic stuff! I never thought of growing fruit or vegetable plants indoors, but the vines and leaves sound wonderful. Thanks for the ideas!

Clever ideas! I really like the window-full-of-plants suggestion. Be careful with valuable old glass, however, the sun can discolor it.
