Change Trim Color:
The trim color in your home can quickly and easily be changed to give the entire home a new look. Try out a new accent color throughout the home on all of the trim that runs along the doors and baseboards on the floors. A gallon of paint costs less than $20 and it will go a long way!
Paint Light Switch Plates:
Are the light switch plates in your home a solid color such as white? Do the rooms in your home have colorful walls or a faux texture on the walls? One of the fastest and most inexpensive home improvements that you can do is to paint the light switch covers throughout the home. Use spray paint for best results--and it costs only about $3 per can! A whole house of light switch plates and outlet covers can be repainted with spray paint and you should only need 2-3 cans at the very most!
Wallpaper Appliqués:
Wallpaper appliqués are another easy and very inexpensive home improvement project that you can do for under $20. Buy one roll of wallpaper that you like which either has a texture to it or has a pattern on it that you love. For best results, make sure that the wallpaper is prepasted. Cut out the patterned pieces of the wallpaper to create your own little wallpaper appliqués to apply to a room. If the wallpaper that you have doesn't already have a pattern you can always use a solid wallpaper that is textured to create your own wallpaper appliqués in any pattern that you choose. Apply them to the wall as you would wallpaper but in random patterns so that a single roll can be used throughout the home!
Create an Art Board for the Kids' Art Work:
Art work created by the children is usually in abundance around the house and the refrigerator magnets can only hold so much. Using a piece of cork board, cut it into strips that are 3 inches wide and the length of the board. Use some wall paint to paint the cork board and then attach it to the wall with some drywall screws. Attach a few strips along side each other or down a hallway to create an area where children's art work can be displayed. This is one of my children's favorite inexpensive home improvements.
Paint the Backsplash:
A dull or drab backsplash along a kitchen wall can easily be updated and changed without actually doing any tile work. While changing the tile is another possible inexpensive home improvement that can be done, it will cost more than $20. Paint, however, can be used to update a backsplash. Paint just a few of the tiles, paint all of them if you wish, or just paint a pattern onto the tiles. Porcelain paint can be purchased for well under $20 to complete this inexpensive home improvement project and add some beauty to the kitchen or the bathroom of your home!
