Home Improvement Projects with Savings that Add Up

Be Eco Friendly and Cash in at the Same Time

Linda Riggs
I'm in double trouble. I've been building a summer house and it's been quite a task. I now also have the distinct pleasure of having two homes with projects to be tended to. I'm not complaining a bit . It's been a real learning process for me and I've enjoyed the ride. One thing I've learned is that when making any purchases for home improvement projects, it's important to keep in mind future savings. Let's face it, a penny here and a penny there can really add up over time. The more projects you have lined up, the more important it is to think Eco friendly and pocket book friendly too.

I've made a point of keeping both the environment and costs of maintaining and running things in mind when tackling any home improvement projects. I've considered price and value while sticking with quality items when doing my purchasing. Here are my favorite suggestions for money saving home improvement project ideas.

Heat Control Window Film:
This was a purchase I've made for my main home. It's an older city brick house with windows that aren't very efficient. What I loved most was the tint in the film. There aren't a lot of trees in the city and when it's really warm out, a little shade is so very welcome. It's easy to install and you can reduce the cost of cooling your home significantly. You can find out more about this product here.

Electrical Floor Warming System:
The summer home I'm building is in the state of Minnesota. Cold weather can be an issue almost any time of the year up there. I'm a warm blooded person but my feet always seem to be cold. That's the main reason that I installed this system into my bathroom floor at the lake house. The fact that it saves money on heating makes me feel a little less guilty about this because it sure seems like a naughty pleasure. Considering how much I enjoy it and keeping in mind the savings, I'd have to recommend trying this in any room you're going to install new flooring in. Eco Smart Bulbs:
Changing up light bulbs may not seem like a real project but after getting up on a few ladders and moving furniture to get to lighting you might just see it differently. The most important thing to think of when it comes to lighting is being Eco smart. It's a perfect example of a project that will save many pennies that add up over time. You can find out more about these bulbs here. They're relatively inexpensive and a home improvement project that just about anyone can handle.

Garage Door Insulation:
The garage isn't always at the front of minds when thinking of home improvement projects. If you spend time in your garage and use energy in it, it might be a good idea to consider this idea. If you have an uninsulated steel garage door, you can really rack up some savings with this kit. Read here for more information on this project idea.

Installing a smart Water Heater:
I've purchased this system for my main home. My old water heater was on it's last leg and barely did the job for one hot bath. This system is Eco friendly and while it's a bit pricey, the savings over years will add up significantly. It works just as well as it claims to and I absolutely love it. I would recommend this system to anyone that's replacing their current water heater. You can find out much more about this system here.

These are my best suggestions for money saving home improvement projects. There are many other ways you can save money and be Eco friendly when tackling other projects in your home. When shopping, it's smart to consider how long you plan to stay in the home you're working on . The amount you're willing to invest should be measured by the savings you'll see from staying in that price range. How much you'll personally enjoy the improvements you're making is also another important issue to consider when making your purchases. I tend to tackle the projects that I'll get the most enjoyment out of first. I'd recommend the same to anyone.
