Another method for making walls pretty in a hurry is to use fabric. Simply launder cloth first, then cut the pieces to the wall's measurements. Dip the fabric pieces in starch that is mixed according to package instructions. Now hang the fabric on the wall, using a straight edge of some sort to smooth the cloth.
Ugly, stained carpet? Try dyeing it. If it's a light color it will be easy to dye it a dark color. And dyeing carpet is much less expensive than purchasing new floor coverings. Dyeing the carpet is time-consuming, though, and must be done in a certain manner. Use a sponge mop and bucket of dye to apply. More than one application may be necessary. Do not soak the carpet by using an excessive amount of liquid. Dry quickly by setting up fans.
Hoods over the tops of ranges can become stripped of paint or start to look rusted. A new hood is expensive but you can improve the one you already have with little expense. Spread a layer of glue over the hood and add rocks. Rocks should be lightweight, like you use for an aquarium. You can use hot glue to make the project progress even quicker. When using hot glue you can use larger rocks, such as white driveway gravel. It's a catchy look to your kitchen and matches most decor themes. The same can be done around window sills or baseboards.
Pour and lay stepping stones from the road to your door. They're very easy to make. Use deli tray lids, old pizza pans or even bowls as the molds for the steps. Use quick-setting concrete and pour the molds then allow to dry. Turn them out and arrange the stones as a walkway.
Can't afford new wallpaper? Purchase a roll or two with a floral pattern then cut out the flowers and affix them to a plain wall. You don't have to take a lot of time cutting the flowers just so-so. Instead, just cut around the flower in a general pattern. Now use white glue to stick them to a plainly painted wall or use them to make a border.
Dimensional paints are great for perking up everything from doorknobs to counter top edges. Dimensional paints come in a tube and go on quite thickly. They cover rapidly and give anything a look of stone. Use the paints on unsightly light switch covers or even molding.
Look around your local home improvement store for more ideas to decorate quickly. Or, go online and find articles for home improvements on a budget. You'll be surprised at how many methods there are for renovating at little cost.
