Let's face it. The exuberance in our house fades with time. Over the years, dust takes over and some areas become cluttered. Of course, many of us want to bring our home back to its initial liveliness to the day we first moved in.
Rearranging your living space is not as difficult as it looks. With proper planning, right materials, and willingness to carry out such plan, you can instantly turn your dull home to a sparkling sanctuary. Follow these ten steps on how to redesign your home and breathe new life into your space:
- Examine your furniture. Focus on your home's bigger furniture and try to work around it. Unnecessary pieces should be disposed. Try this and you would notice a bigger, more breathable space.
- Look at your color palette. Take a good look at your house and notice its color palette. You can find your home's color palette by looking at your furniture, walls, fabric, carpet, sofa, and flooring. In redesigning your space, you could consider having an entirely new color theme or adding vibrant, more attractive colors to your existing furniture.
- Light up. Try changing your lights. Lights can be obtained from three sources - natural (sunlight), ambient (candles and lamps), and general lighting (incandescent bulbs). Play around with your lights, like letting more sunlight in, and notice a change in the feel of your home.
- Think of your walls and ceilings. These parts of the house contribute to the feeling of space. Light-colored furniture should lighten dark walls, while dark furniture would anchor white walls.
- Use bigger accessories. Small accessories contribute to the feeling of clutter. Try looking around for stuff that you could find and put at your walls, or tables, like a nice vase.
- Upholster your cabinet or walls. This would give a softer feel to your space.
- Do space magic. Place mirrors in small areas and use long curtains for small windows. These would create the illusion of a bigger space.
- Give your sofa a new look. Try putting pillows that have interesting colors or accent it with fabric.
- Revitalize your dining area. Try putting slipcovers to your dining chairs. Buying different designs vary the look of the dining area.
- Hand-paint your walls. This provides an edgy design to your space, instead of buying wallpaper that would make your house look drab and boring.
