First of all, as a home inspector, Gerry was extremely courteous and willing to explain everything as he went. My partner stayed with him throughout his trek through the house with our child, and he not only pointed out current problems, but problems that could arise given the age of the home, builder, types of appliances used, etc. He also covered quite a number of problem areas that we are told many inspectors do not usually cover: although we were not buying into an FHA loan, he checked to make sure that the home met all FHA criteria in case we should ever wish to refinance into one. Gerry made a point to inspect the roof and air conditioning, and gave us hints on how to avoid problems in the future.
Gerry Riffle of Helping Hands Home Inspections is a member of the North Carolina Licensed Home Inspectors Association, so we knew that he had plenty of experience. In addition, when he provided our comprehensive report of problems and potential problems, he was available to discuss any and all questions that we had about the paperwork. He was willing to recap portions of his inspection, and took many photos for his paperwork and so that he would be able to visualize those things he may have forgotten. Besides just pointing out potential problems, he pointed out things about our home that were particularly positive, as well, so we were not left feeling like we were buying a home that is ready to fall apart. His price was reasonable, based on what we have heard from others.
Helping Hands Home Inspections is based out of Garner, North Carolina, but Gerry can travel around the Triangle area (we do not live in Garner, and he probably had to drive about 45 minutes from home base to get to our new home). Overall, we were extremely pleased and would recommend Gerry to anyone looking for a home inspector in the Triangle area of North Carolina.
