Home Made Bubble Bath
The most common additive to plain bath water is bubbles. Here is a recipe you can make at home. One thing to keep in mind however, is that home made bubble bath is not great for producing large bubbles, so don't be too disappointed if this recipe does not produce large, long lasting bubbles. The best part about this bubble bath is that it is great for moisturizing your skin while you soak. To make this recipe you will need:
1. 1/2 cup of soap flakes. You can make these yourself by grating your favorite bar soap with a cheese grater.
2. 1 cup of boiling water
3. 3 tablespoons sweet almond oil or bath oil blend.
4. A few drops of your favorite scented essential oil. (This is optional.)
Dissolve your soap flakes in the boiling water, stirring gently so it doesn't splash. Once your soap flakes are dissolved, add your sweet almond oil and essential oil. Stir together well, and add about 4-5 tablespoons to your running bath water. This bubble bath can be stored for about a month or so, you will just need to stir it together before you use it again.
Modern Milk Bath
Cleopatra was said to have added a form of milk bath to her bath water to keep her skin soft. For centuries, women have used milk baths because of their soothing and softening qualities. Here is a milk bath that is quite easy to make, using modern day ingredients.
1. 1 cup powdered milk
2. 1/2 cup epsom salts
3. 1 tablespoon baking soda
4. 1 teaspoon cornstarch
5. A few drops of your favorite scented essential oil. (This is optional.)
Simply mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Add to your bath water and enjoy! You can save leftovers in any container with a lid, and it will last for a few months.
Bath Pudding
This "pudding" for your body will help to smooth, moisturize and condition your skin.
1. Two egg yolks
2. 1/4 cup sweet almond oil
3. 2 cups warm water
4. 1 teaspoon of milk
Beat your egg yolks until frothy. Slowly stir in the sweet almond oil and milk. Gradually add your warm water and stir until everything is well blended. Immediately add this to your bath water. As an added bonus, you can use the egg whites you separated from the yolks to make a face mask to use while soaking. Simply whip the egg whites until they start to form peaks, then add 1/8 of a teaspoon of cornstarch. Apply this to your face and leave on for about 20 minutes. This facial mask is great for any skin type and wonderful for tightening skin. Both the Bath Pudding and the facial mask recipes however, do not store well and should be made to use as needed.
Bath Salts
Bath salts are another time honored tradition. This recipe calls for epsom salts which contain minerals which are known to help relax the body and sea salts which help to soften and tone the skin.
1. 1 cup of epsom salts
2. 1/4 cup concentrated sea salt
3. 1 teaspoon of sweet almond oil or apricot kernel oil (I've also used pure olive oil)
4. A few drops of your favorite scented essential oil.( Lavender, Lilac and Rose are great for relaxing.)
In a small bowl, mix your salts together. Add your sweet almond (or other) oil to the salts a few drops at a time stirring until it is evenly distributed. At this time you would also stir in your essential oil and stir until well mixed. Use approximately 1/4 of a cup per bath. These bath salts store wonderfully in any container with a lid. They're also great to give as gifts because they are so cheap to make!
At the end of a long day, a luxurious bath can help relieve stress and help you to sleep better. Go the extra mile and add a few candles and soft music to make it a truly wonderful experience. Your body and your mind will thank you!
