Halloween is the time of year when most kids and a few adults like to celebrate by wearing their favorite character costumes. Often, these costumes can get quite expensive. Why spend hundreds for a costume that you could easily put together with clothes you already have around the home? It is easy to make your own great looking original Halloween Pirate Costume with such items and save money. Here is how to get started.

Pirate Costume Items

First start your search for the items needed to complete the Pirate Costume. Look in closets, storage bags, attics, and basements for the needed items. And don't forget to ask parents or siblings for items.

Bandanas - Every Pirate has to have a bandana. Think of Johnny Depp. He would lose a bit of his Pirate swagger without a bandana tied across his forehead. One in a red or black pattern is perfect.

Shirts - A long sleeved white shirt is another important item for the Pirate Costume. Make sure that the shirt is a bit baggy. Open a few buttons at the top and you have a Pirate shirt.

Vest - Find a loose-fitting vest in a dark color to wear over the long sleeved white shirt.

Pants - Find an old pair of dark colored pants that are a bit on the baggy side. Cut off a few inches on the bottom of the pants. Make the ends look raggedly and uneven. After all you are a Pirate.

Sash - What is a Pirate outfit without a long sash to wrap around the waist Find a long piece of cloth, an old piece of clothing. Cut a long strip and wrap around waist like a belt.

Boots - A pair of high top black or brown boots or knee hi boots is perfect for the outfit.

Accessories - Take a lead from Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean. Wear gold dangling earrings in ears. Several very gaudy rings on the fingers. These could be inexpensive costume jewelry you already own. Finish the look with a big gold chain around the neck.

Makeup - Darken the eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil. And draw a fake moustache. Try not to go overboard on the makeup. After all a tough swaggering pirate doesn't have time for a lot of makeup.

Other Items

Buy an inexpensive fake plastic sword, or parrot, at a discount store to complete the outfit.

Make a Halloween candy booty bag or treasure bag out of an old burlap sack or large brown shopping bag.

Camp up your Pirate costume. Make an eyepatch out of a two thick black shoe strings and piece of black cloth cut in a small oval circle large enough to cover one eye. Stitch one shoe string to each side of the oval cloth piece. Place the eyepatch over one eye and tie the strings together in back.
