Home Maintenance Tips for Summer

Home Maintenance Tips for Summer - Usually people are getting there homes for winter and do not think seriously about the need to also prepare your home for other seasons especially summer. Summer also allows you to get outside to do some exterior work on your home where the winter does not usually have the weather for this type of work.

First Tip - Just like in winter you need to go by every window and make sure the caulking is not cracking or peeling. If your windows are now properly sealed the scorching heat will seep into your home causing your air conditioner to come on more frequently which hikes up your bills.

Second Tip - Take a trip up to your attic and make sure the insulation is sufficient, also check for holes and areas that rats, raccoons, or squirrels can get in. Once they are in it is almost impossible to get them out. It is better to make sure they don't have a chance to begin with.

Third Tip - If you have dogs this is flea season. To help with the flea infestation, boil several citrus rinds in a pot for a few hours. Then let sit overnight. The next day pour the liquid in a hand sprayer and spray furniture, floors, and any upholstery. It isn't sticky and fleas cannot stand it.

Fourth Tip - Now is also the time to look at the caulking and grout in your bathrooms and kitchen if there is any. Caulking is fairly easy and you will just need to run the caulk down the seams of your tub with your finger to smooth out. The grouting for tiles needs to be fixed if you see cracking or the grout falling out between the tiles. To regrout you need to use a putty knife to smooth everywhere over the tiles, do small sections so that you can wipe down the tile with a damp cloth so the grout does not dry anywhere but in the seams. This is also great if you want to change it up and use a colored grout.

Lastly just always remember that anything you do in winter needs to be done or at least looked into over the summer. Change out the batteries in your fire alarms, check your propane tanks for leaks, and make sure you have working flashlights. Never hurts to be prepared for any kind of weather.
