Home Office Crafts: Sheet Music Pencil Organizer

Landra Lynn Jacobs
Whimsical pencil organizers are a great way to keep your home office organized and still stylish. This fun sheet music pencil organized recycles old sheet music and a chip canister to create a design that is great for a desk space.

For this project, you will need (per pencil organizer):

- One Pringles chip can
- Soap and water
- Paper towels
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Dover White
- Krylon Spray Adhesive
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Sheet music
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Scissors
- One inch wide red satin ribbon
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth

Cover the area you will be creating your pencil organizer at with old newspaper sheets and/or a large drop cloth. Rinse out the Pringles chip can with soap and water. (Note: Do not use too much water or it can ruin the integrity of the chip canister. Just use enough to remove any crumbs and/or residue from the food product.) Dry the canister well with paper towels and let it set upside down for an hour or two.

Spray the outside of the chip canister with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Let the primer dry for a couple hours. Paint the outside of the canister using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Dover White. Let the paint dry for thirty minutes and apply a second coat of paint. Continue to add additional coats of paint to the chip canister until all the color is solid and no wording from the packing shows through.

Determine the amount of paper needed to wrap around the chip canister with a ruler. Turn the sheet music paper upside down on the self healing mat. In pencil, mark the rectangle on the paper for the amount needed to cover the canister. Carefully cut out the rectangle with a craft knife.

Spray the back of the paper rectangle with Krylon Spray Adhesive. Adhere the sheet music paper around the painted chip canister. Once dry, turn the chip canister upside down on the work area. Spray the entire outside of the canister with Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Dry overnight.

Cut a length of one inch wide red satin ribbon. Wrap the ribbon around the center of the chip canister, tie in a bow, and secure with a bit of hot glue. Insert pens, pencils, rulers, scissors, or other office supplies into the canister and enjoy your new creation.
