If your infant or young child is suffering from constipation you know how uncomfortable and painful it can be. If you are a new mother this can be very scary. There is nothing more heart breaking than watchng your child suffer. Here are a few home remedies that you can try to help relieve your infant from constipation.
Juice: Giving your infant a juice can be effective in relieving constipation.

Raisins: If your infant has a mild case of constipation this works well. Boil the raisins to soften them and spoon feed them to your child.

Water: Water is important in you child's diet. If you notice that you infant has not passed a bowel be sure to increase his water intake.

If your infants constipation is more sever and she needs immediate relief here are some other things you can do to assist.

Bicycle legs: Lay your infant on her back and motion her legs as if she is ridding a bicycle. This allow the intestine to move the bowel.

Warm bath: Giving your infant a warm bath relaxes the muscles which will help relieve her.

Massage: Massaging the tummy can help move the bowels.

Cotton swab: This is the most extreme way to stimulate the bowl. By taking a cotton swab coated with petroleum jelly insert the swab into the rectum. Again this is only in severe cases when relief is needed immediately.

Miscellaneous tips about dealing with infant constipation.

The majority of the time, infants suffer from constipation because of diet. If you have a baby that is starting solid food, has had a switch in formula, or has not been drinking an adequate amount of water he or she may be effected by constipation.

If your child is suffering from infant constipation be sure to stay away from things like applesauce, rice cereal, and dairy. Keep in mind that although apple juice is a good way to assist the relief of constipation in babies applesauce, because of the complex sugars in it can actually prolong, or cause constipation.

It is also important to understand that a baby who has been exclusively breast feed does run the risk of being more susceptible to constipation,. Their tummies are used to breaking down milk that is easier on their digestive track. When the time comes to transition your breast feed infant, you should make sure to feed him foods that are high in fiber to assist in more comfortable digestion.
