First you may be out of alignment, many people don't even realize that their collar bone may be out of alignment and need adjusting, there is an adjustment you can do from home safely. In this treatment even if you don't do it perfectly or are not out of alignment it should not have any negative affects what so ever. This treatment is very easy to do. First find your collar bone, which sticks out on most people, then feel around on the tops and bottoms of the bone to feel where it is sore. If the top joint is sore then use your opposite hand and press down on that area with about four ounces of pressure while your other arm is rotating slowly up and down. If the sore area is below the bone then do the same although press up instead of down. This self adjustment is safe, easy, and free.
More advice would be not to lie down too long, bed rest can actually make you heal slower and get worse by weakening the muscles. At night if you sleep on a soft or sagging mattress you may want to invest in a new firm mattress to help with back pain. Getting a good night's sleep is also a good idea with a pillow under your knees if you sleep on your back. A pillow in between your legs for if you sleep on your side.
Massage is very helpful as well whether from a friend, spouse, or professional. Stress can also be a factor in back pain and a massage may help relax you not only physically but emotionally. Using a small cushion in the small of your back in most chairs and vehicles will also help support you to sit correctly and help reduce back pains. Careless activity can result in back pain as well, if on the job you are lifting with your back and not your knees that may have a harmful factor. Exercise such as swimming would be the best option due to the lack of any tension on your joints as you do this. Walking would be the next best option. Maintaining a healthy body weight also helps.
Ice and heat your back pains away. Applying an ice pack to the sore areas will help reduce inflammation. It is recommended to leave the ice on for 20 minutes and repeat as necessary. A hot bath for 20 minutes helps as well, unless pregnant this is recommended. Epsom salts in the bath will also help relieve tension and swelling.
By following some, many, or even all of these remedies your back pain should either be greatly reduced or completely eliminated. If your back pain is due to a serious injury consult a doctor before doing anything.
