Bloating occurs when our body negatively reacts to what we eat and drink. There are many causes of bloating. These include:

Overeating

Food Intolerance

Allergies

Green Leafy Vegetables and Dried Beans

Calcium supplements

Salty Foods

Smoking

Alcohol

Stress

Sugar Groups Such as Sorbitol and Fructose

Menstruation

Constipation
The following are excellent home remedies to help relieve you of bloating:

1. After you are finished eating, chew celery seed.

2. Drinking chamomile or fennel teas will help you with your bloating. They both have antispasmodic properties. If you are suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, these teas will help.

3. Chew three mint leaves or brew them in a cup of tea.

4. Activated Charcoal Pills, which can be purchased from a health food store help relieve gas and bloating

5. Use probiotics to get healthy intestines. These get rid of the bad bacteria and replace it with the good. While yogurts have these microorganisms you can also purchase them in pill, powder and liquid form at your health food store.

6. Set a heating pad on warm and place it on your stomach

7. When you lie on your stomach put a pillow under it

8. Drink warm water with ginger, cinnamon or honey

The best home remedy for bloating is prevention. Here are several things you can do:

1. If your bloating is from eating large meals, eat more frequent meals with a smaller portion size.

2. If you are constantly producing gas, keep a food diary for two weeks. If you have a large amount of gas producing food in your diet, eliminate them or reduce the amount that you eat

3. Chew food slowly and do not talk while you eat

4. Avoid carbonated beverages and alcohol

5. Eliminate foods that you suspect you may be intolerant or allergic to

6. If your food contains fiber, make sure you are consuming no more than 25 grams a day

7. Eat smaller portions of food such as cauliflower, broccoli, potatoes, apples and pears and eat more of rice, bananas, grapes, peanut butter and yogurt.

8. Drink more water and less carbonated beverages. You should drink eight cups of water a day.

9. Make sure you exercise for 20 minutes 4 days a week. This helps the food move through the digestive tract faster.

10. If you suspect your calcium supplements are the culprit, stop taking them

11. Reduce salt intake and increase potassium intake

12. If you are under stress, do an activity to keep your mind off what is bothering you. for example, you can work on a craft or read a book

13. Wear loose fitting clothing

Preventing bloating takes very little effort. By drinking enough water, getting exercise and eating the right foods, you are on the way to a gas-free life. However, remember that these are just remedies to use to relieve your bloating. If the bloating does not go away see your doctor; this could be an underlying cause of something serious such as Liver disease.
