Home Remedies for a Cold

Home Remedies that Will Get Rid of Your Cold ASAP

Lehticia Leo
It seems that colds are attracted to me and I'm their favorite person to pick on, because I always have a cold. I got sick of walking around my house with Kleenex stuffed up my nose, so over the years, I've developed several home remedies that have proven to be effective in getting rid of colds within 48 hours. Look, I know how stressful getting a cold can be on your work life. Calling out of work is scary; depending on your employer it may mean a loss of pay or even termination. Follow my home remedies and you won't have to call out sick for years to come.

All Spiked Up!

I named this one "All Spiked Up" because it uses a teensy bit of alcohol. Don't worry, it's barely enough to taste. Place one tablespoon of lemon juice in a cup, it doesn't have to be fresh squeezed, but the remedy will be more effective if it's fresh. Then add three drops of peppermint oil to the lemon juice. Don't start stirring yet, wait until all the ingredients are in the cup. Next add two teaspoons of honey to the lemon juice and peppermint oil. And now for the "spiked" part, add 1 teaspoon of brandy. Then, take a spoon and mix your remedy vigorously until everything looks well blended and the consistency is a bit more manageable. Drink one tablespoon two to three times per day and you should start feeling better within 24 hours or so.

Spicy Sally

I'll be the first to admit that this sounds disgusting and it truly doesn't taste much better than it sounds. But, if you've got a cold and you're desperate to get rid of it, suck it up and make this home remedy. The good news is that it's simple and only requires two ingredients which are likely in your pantry at this very moment. Bring a cup of water to a rolling boil and slowly integrate a teaspoon of mustard seed. Stir frequently and let simmer for four to six minutes. Let cool for 20 minutes or you can speed up the process by sticking the remedy in the refrigerator for 5 minutes. Drink once per day and consume the remedy when it is a bit warm, but leaning towards room temperature. I find the cold remedy goes down easier when it's warm because it feels as if you're drinking soup. Afterwards, I serve myself a nice bowl of tomato soup to get rid of the taste. I usually feel better within two days.
