Now is a great time to stock up on items that can help you keep your family healthy during the toughest flu and cold seasons. Don't settle for kids coming home sick. Start now preparing and keeping them healthier than ever.
What is a Cough?
Coughing is an action the body performs to clear out the respiratory system of irritants and secretions. Coughing can be a voluntary or involuntary reaction. We all know that hacking sound that comes with coughing as we try to get that nasty stuff in our throats out. Yep, thats a cough!
What is the Flu?
Although the flu and cold have many of the same symptoms, they are not the same. The flu is a respiratory sickness that is created by the influenza virus. We've all heard flu called influenza before so this makes sense. Some symptoms that come with the flu are being tired, fever, coughing, body aches, congestion, runny nose, stomped up nose, and sneezing. Sounds a lot like a cold doesn't it?!
Home Remedies for Cold and Flu Season
Hand Sanitizer can keep your child's hands clean. The cleaner their hands stay, the less likely they are to getting sicknesses spread from their friends.
The Flu Shot can protect you and your children from getting sick from the flu during flu season. This isn't a home remedy but a wonderful resource to have on hand just in case you find that the flu is spreading in your community.
Ginger Tea has wonderful healing properties that will help heal your/your child's throat. Drink 1-3 cups of ginger tea before going to bed to help relax and heal your throat.
Honey and White Pepper are great home remedies products to have on hand. When you eat a teaspoon of honey and a pinch of white pepper, you will see a difference in a couple of days. The best cure is to take the honey/white pepper mixture at least two to three times a day.
A Hot Toddy will help you sleep, plus your cough will subside while you sleep. Brew a cup of hot tea. Add in one to two teaspoons of honey plus a teaspoon of whiskey, vodka, rum, or brandy. My favorite is rum or whiskey but use whatever you have on hand.
Honey plus Whisky is another cough reliever. Take a tablespoon of honey and add a few drops of whiskey, vodka, or run to the mixture. Eat and then go to sleep. The honey will soothe your throat and the liqueur will help you sleep.
Salt and water can be used to clear throat. This can be done every couple of hours to successfully clear the throat.
A Herbal Tea Mixture can not only soothe cough, but relief the aches and pains associated with the flu and cough. Brew the tea first. Now add in a teaspoon of cinnamon, honey, lemon, and eucalyptus if you have it. Let this brew together and then drink. Your body will feel better as will your throat.
Massage with Coconut Oil to soothe body aches associated with the flu. This is best done before going to sleep to help your body relax before sleeping.
Garlic capsules will stop the fever midstream.
Catnip Tea will help the fever subside. Drink the tea every four hours.
Note: Check with your doctor if you are pregnant or think you are pregnant before you administer any home remedy.
