Home Remedies for Dry Callused Feet

Make Them Soft and Smooth

Crystal Ray
It's often said that when your feet hurt, you hurt all over, and anyone who has ever experienced the pain and discomfort of dry callused feet understand this familiar phrase. Dry callused feet are a common problem, and many people suffer needlessly, especially during winter months.

There are literally dozens of commercial lotions, gadgets, and products for softening, improving, and repairing dry callused skin. These products can be very expensive, and they don't always work as promised.

Try the following home remedies for softening dry callused feet instead of buying expensive products that might not work. Home remedies are safe to use, they're inexpensive, and they contain readily available ingredients. Begin taking the necessary steps to soften your dry callused feet, and try the following home remedies. You have nothing to lose by painfully cracked dry skin and calluses.

Vinegar Soak

Soak your dry callused feet once a week in a large dishpan or similar container filled with warm water, a drop of dishwashing liquid, and approximately one cup of white vinegar. Soak them for about a half hour.

After soaking, rinse your feet, and thoroughly pat them dry. Apply your favorite lotion especially formulated for very dry skin, and put on a pair of clean cotton socks. This is one of the best doctor recommended home remedies for dry callused feet.

Baking Soda Soak

For those who don't care for the smell of vinegar, try soaking your dry callused feet in a soothing solution of baking soda and warm water. Add about ½ cup of baking soda for every gallon of warm water, and stir the solution until the baking soda dissolves. Soak them for about a half hour.

After soaking, rinse away the baking soda, and pat your feet dry. Generously apply dry-skin lotion of your choice, and cover them with a pair of clean cotton socks. Home remedies such as this will leave your feet feeling remarkably clean and very soft.

Salicylic Acid Solution

Hair products containing salicylic acid are intended for managing dandruff and other dry scalp conditions, and home remedies using salicylic acid will effectively remove dead skin cells and calluses.

If you have extremely dry callused feet, purchase a hair care product containing salicylic acid. Apply the product to dry callused feet with a small brush. Read product label instructions for precautions and warnings, and leave the solution on according to the length of time recommended for the scalp.

Wash your feet as usual to remove the salicylic acid, dry them thoroughly, and generously apply foot cream of your choice. Cover your feet with clean cotton socks to hold in valuable moisture. They should feel much softer as a result.

Socks and Lotion

This is by far one of the most effective and easiest home remedies for dry callused feet. You can let your favorite lotion work to end dryness and slacken dead skin all night long. Before going to bed, generously apply lotion to your feet, and protect sheets and blankets by slipping on a pair of breathable clean cotton socks. You'll awaken to softer feet, and after several nights, your once dry callused feet will be much softer and exceptionally smooth.

  • Slip on clean cotton socks after applying your favorite lotion. You won't believe the difference!
Calluses are dead skin cells that thicken over certain areas of the feet. Never attempt to cut away calluses, especially if you're a diabetic!

Try Zim's Crack Cream. It doesn't smell to great, but I think that it works very well. You should be able to get it at any pharmacy over the counter, and I think Walmart might have it too.
