The older you get, the more likely you will have dry-eye syndrome. Dye-eye syndrome can be dangerous to your vision. More than three quarters of post menopausal women, have some form of dry-eye syndrome.

Some of the symptoms for dry-eye syndrome are burning, itching scratchy feeling eyes. Also, light sensitivity, blurred vision and fluctuating vision are some common symptoms.

It is always best to check with your eye doctor first to try and determine the cause of your dry-eye syndrome first. Some medical conditions and medical treatments can cause the dry-eye syndrome. If these causes are taken care of it is possible it could correct this condition.

If it is determined it is due mainly form aging and environment, then a few home remedies may help alleviate the symptoms and make your eyes more comfortable.

Dry air in the winter months not only dries your skin but also dries your eyes. Adding humidity into the air with either a humidifier or added indoor plants may help. Running a air purifier will also help get dirt and dust particles that can also irate your dry-eyes.

Avoid wearing contact lens for they will pull moisture from your eyes. Contact lenses also prevent the natural tears from circulating across the eyes.

Blink often and take frequent breaks if you are looking at a computer screen or TV screen for long periods of time. Staring at anything for long periods of time will cause dryness because you are not blinking at the same rate you would be if you were doing more mobile activities.

Wear swim goggles when swimming to keep impurities out of your eyes. Do not put yourself in areas where there is a lot of smoke or smokers.

Keep your face away from direct breezes. The blowing into your eyes will just dry them out more.

Eat foods with a lot of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 helps to keep the eyes moisturized.

Drink lots of water to moisture your eyes as well as your whole body.

Get plenty of sleep. The eyes need to rest and repair. If needed, rest your eyes for twenty minutes during the day.

If you want some quicker results you can use tear drops in your eyes to lubricate them. There are several artificial tear products at your local pharmacies, ask your druggist.

If none of these remedies help with your dry-eye syndrome, then I would definitely recommend going back to your eye doctor and get a prescription for something stronger.

Dye-eye syndrome does not have to lead to anything serious. You can learn to deal with this condition and have good vision for years to come.
