Home Remedies for Ear Congestion

Do you all of a sudden have problems hearing somebody speak? Do their words sound muffles? Do you hear crackling or popping noises in you ear and does your ear seem to be stuffed up? Chances are you are suffering from ear congestion. There are many reasons why you have this. You may be in a higher altitude than you normally are in. The changes in air pressure cause you ears to be congestion. You also may have extra wax build-up or have an ear infection. Even the common cold can cause you to get ear congestion. While you may want to call a doctor, check out several home remedies first.

If the air pressure changes, such as when you are driving through mountainous areas, all you have to do is swallow and the pressure will go away. By doing this and also chewing gum, swallowing helps open up your Eustachian tubes.

If you think the cause of your ear congestion is due to earwax build-up, put three to four drops of hydrogen peroxide into your ear canal. Let this stay in your ear for a few minutes. Then fill an ear dropper full of warm water and rinse you ear out. The hydrogen peroxide softens the earwax and the warm water dislodges it. You can also use olive oil to get the same results. Even if your ear congestion is because of an ear infection, hydrogen peroxide is very useful for treating your ear.

White vinegar and rubbing alcohol are excellent if you have an ear infection. Mix two to three drops of each and put in your ear canal. The alcohol will help if you have extra fluid in you tubes. The vinegar will fight any infection.

If your ear congestion is because of a cold or flu, since these are both a virus, you will have to let it run its course. However, if you want to suffer from cold and flu symptoms for a shorter period of time, drink Echinacea tea three times a day. This tea has many capabilities that help the immune system become more active. With white blood cells fighting germs, you will cover from a cold or flu faster.

Ear congestion can be annoying and even painful. Just by practicing these simple remedies, you can alleviate the discomfort without having to go to your doctor. However, if the ear congestion does not go away within a few days, see your doctor. He may have to prescribe something that is a bit stronger.
