A skin condition, eczema can be either range from an annoying itch to a burning pain. It also can be embarrassing to some people. It can be caused by allergies to specific foods, dust and pollen in the air, the lack of humidity in your house and stress. With over nine million victims suffering from Eczema, it is surprising about the number of individuals who see the doctor to prescribe one type of medication or another, where there are a few simple things that can be done at home to relieve the itching.

Eczema is very common during the winter months. This is because, since many of us need to stay warm, we rely on some type of heating source. Since dry air is a main culprit for Eczema outbreaks, it is a good idea to keep the air in your house moist. With different forms of heating, such as electric, oil and gas, the air becomes dry. To keep the air moist, you need to get a humidifier, whether it is a small one for one room or a larger one for the entire house.

Do not think that when the warm weather rolls around that your eczema problems will disappear. Heat also triggers an outbreak. Make sure to keep your house cool with an air conditioner.

Any type of cream that contains hydrocortisone is an excellent treatment to reduce the inflammation and itching caused by eczema. Instead of wasting money on an expensive prescription, you can purchase many over-the-counter hydrocortisone creams. If you prefer to go the more natural approach, visit your local health food store. Lotions that contain blue berry leaves are an excellent remedy to relieve the itching. Vitamin E is also an excellent source. You can either use a lotion that contains it or capsules that contain oil work just as well. If you purchase the capsules all you have to do is break them open and rub the oil on your affected skin.

What you eat has a direct impact on whether you will have an eczema outbreak. You may not realize it, but you may be having an allergic reaction to certain dairy products, eggs or preservatives.

A major culprit of an eczema outbreak is stress. Who does not deal with stress at least once in a while? It can be trying to pay those bills on time or trying to do fifty hours of work in a twenty-four hour day. Find ways to help you relax. This can be accomplished by doing ten minutes of yoga a day, listening to the rain as it hits your roof or taking a relaxing bath.

When you take a shower or a bath, make sure the temperature is lukewarm. If the water is too hot or too cold, you may not be able to treat your eczema. Make sure that all the soap is rinsed from your skin. After you are done with your bath or shower, apply a moisturizing lotion to your skin.

Even though you see a nice shirt on the clearance rack, you skin may think otherwise. If it is made of any type of material other than cotton, you skin may get irritated by it. Synthetic fabrics, such as polyester, should be avoided if you suffer from eczema outbreaks. Also, your clothes should fit loosely rather than tightly.

If you use cleaning agents that contain Clorox, wear rubber gloves when you are using them. Always wash your hands after you are done and put moisturizer on your skin. Even if the cleaning agents do not come in contact with your skin, it can still be irritated.

Break in your feather duster. Dust and animal dander are a main cause of eczema outbreaks. It might mean running a vacuum or changing your bed sheets more often. However, your skin will thank you for it.

There are many things that can bring about an eczema outbreak. However, the home remedies above are all effective in bringing relief to the pain and discomfort. By using the techniques mentioned, you will be saving money by avoiding doctor visits. You will not let this condition to rule your life.
