Fever blisters are small, red blisters that appear on the lips or around the mouth. They are caused by the herpes virus and will have fluid in them and will scab up after a few days. They often appear after a cold, fever, stress, and exposure to the sun. There is no cure for fever blisters but there are things you can do at home to treat them.

Home Remedies for Fever Blisters: Ice

Apply ice to the affected area for five or ten minutes, every hour to prevent fever blisters from developing further. Ice can also ease the pain associated with a fever blister.

Home Remedies for Fever Blisters: Aloe Juice

When you feel a burning or itching sensation caused by the fever blister, rub some aloe juice on it. You can also use a small amount of aloe gel to the fever blister. Using aloe juice or gel can heal the fever blister and prevent it from developing further.

Home Remedies for Fever Blisters: Tea bag

Hold a warm tea bag on the fever blister for five to ten minutes, every hour as soon as you see a fever blister developing because this will prevent it from developing any further. You can also place a warm tea bag on the fever blister and leave it on for 20 minutes to a half hour to get rid of it.

Home Remedies for Fever Blisters: Baking Soda

Apply baking soda directly to the fever blister to help heal it. You can also make a paste of baking soda and water. Baking soda forms an alkaline base and the herpes virus cannot survive in an alkaline environment.

Home Remedies for Fever Blisters: Honey

Honey has antiviral, antifungal, and antibiotic properties. It can be used as a good home remedy for fever blisters by applying it directly to the sore.

Home Remedies for Fever Blisters: Herbs

Herbs such as Echinacea, calendula, burdock, and lomatium combined in equal parts with oats can provide good relief for a fever blister. After mixing these herbs together with oats, take a ½ teaspoon four times a day to soothe the inflamed area, remove any toxins from the body, and kill the herpes virus.

Home Remedies for Fever Blisters: Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy essential oils are good for treating fever blisters. Good essential oils to try for ever blisters are rose, tea tree, lemon balm, geranium, and bergamot.

Home Remedies for Fever Blisters: Herbal Teas

Make a tea with sage and ginger by adding two sage leaves and a small piece of ginger or ginger powder and steep it in hot, boiling water. Drink two or three cups a day of this tea to help prevent and treat fever blisters.

Other things to do to treat Fever Blisters

Avoid salty foods.

Reduce your intake of chocolate, nuts, peas, grains, seeds, and oatmeal because these foods are high in arginine and too much arginine can increase the risk of fever blisters.

Cut down on caffeine.

Take Vitamin B and folic acid to reduce the risk of fever blisters.

By using the home remedies above, you can treat fever blisters and get rid of them quickly and easily.
