The gall bladder is an organ just under the right side of the liver. It is pear-shaped and about 10 cm long by 3-5 cm wide. Its main function is to store the bile from the liver. This bile aids in the digestion and absorption of fats and the fat-soluble vitamins. The gall bladder squeezes the bile into the duodenum to mix with foods when fats are detected.
There are two main diseases associated with the gall bladder: gall bladder stones and inflammation known as cholecystitis. Gall stones are caused by calcium buildups in the bile that may begin with unhealthy cholesterol ratios. The fine gravel of calcium salts, after years, can form the nucleus of larger stones. Inflammation is also caused by these excess salts.
The most common symptoms of gall bladder disease are: indigestion, gas, constipation, nausea, pain below the right side of the rib cage, chest pain, fever, chills, vomiting, jaundice, bitter taste in the mouth, and blurred vision.
If you suffer from any of these symptoms, of course, you should see your doctor, however there are ways to treat small gall stones and mild inflammation from home using old tried and trusted methods.
Several common foods and juices have proven effective in treating gall stones and inflammation. Fresh beet juice mixed with carrot and cucumber juice is one of the best ways to clean the gall bladder. Two glasses daily will provide benefits. Pears and pear juice is also very effective for gall bladder disorders. Chicory and endive flowers, seeds, and roots eaten three times per day is good for both the liver and the gall b ladder. Dandelion and watercress juice taken twice daily can help as well. Olive oil combined with lemon juice taken in the morning daily may treat the gall bladder also.
Many sufferers of gall bladder disorders advocate a flush of the gall bladder that can release small stones in one day. It is performed by eating only five organic green apples during the course of the day. Drink only pure or distilled water or herbal teas. Before bed, mix 2/3 cup of olive oil with 1/3 cup of fresh lemon juice. Warm the mixture to body temperature and drink. Go directly to bed after this and sleep on the right side with the right leg drawn up. It may be an uncomfortable posture at first, but sleeping in this position will help to force small gall stones into the stool.
Another form of treatment for gall bladder disorders is to use a hot compress. Make the compress as hot as possible without any discomfort and hold it over the gall bladder for at least 20 minutes. Apply a half-cup of olive oil to a hot cloth and hold it against the organ. The olive oil will be absorbed into the gall bladder through the skin and muscle and will soften the stones to allow them to pass.
Any of these three methods can provide relief from gall stones and inflammation without the need for more severe medical treatment. As always, you should discuss the problem with a professional if symptoms are causing severe pain or problems.
