Dogs get fleas all the time. If you have a dog or dogs, then you have had to deal with fleas before. Dealing with fleas biting your poor dog and then jumping off of your dog and biting you can be a real pain. There are flea treatments on the market that you can use for treating your dog but who wants to use those when they are full of chemicals? Fortunately, there are things you can do from home to help rid your poor dog of fleas once and for all.

Using Garlic to Get Rid of Fleas

Garlic is a good herb to help get rid of fleas on your dog. Give your dog ½ clove of crushed garlic in their food once a day every day. Not only does this help get rid of the fleas and keep them away but garlic also promotes good digestive health for your dog. Garlic is safe to give your dog too.

How to Use a Flea Comb on Your Dog

Flea combs are special combs that you can use on your dog to get rid of fleas and their eggs before bathing him or her. These combs have special teeth that trap the fleas and eggs. Have a bucket or dish pan of hot and soapy water when using the flea comb. Run the comb through your pets fur and dip it in the hot and soapy water. The hot and soapy water will kill the fleas and their eggs.

A Bath with Dish Washing Liquid

Add some dish washing liquid to your dogs shampoo when giving them a bath. The dish washing liquid oils will suffocate the fleas. Start out by scrubbing the dogs neck but do it fast because the fleas will run to your dogs face and try to hide in his nostrils to get away from the dish washing liquid. After washing his neck, completely soap him up, leave the dish washing liquid sit for a few minutes and then rinse thoroughly.

Using a Homemade Flea Spray

After the bath, you will want to do what you can to keep the fleas away. Make your own flea spray from water and essential oils. All you need is 600 ml. of warm water, two drops of pure lavender essential oil and two drops of pure cedar wood essential oil. Shake these ingredients up really good to mix the oils and apply to your dog. Be careful around their head and make sure not to get any in their eyes. You will have to re-apply as often as possible because the essential oils evaporate quickly.

Treating your dog for fleas using these methods will keep you and your dog happy and flea free.

I'm having a real flea problem with my dogs this year and nothing seems to be helping. Even the expensive stuff from the vet isn't doing the job, and I hate putting that toxic stuff on them anyway. I've heard of adding garlic to their food, but haven't been able to find anyone that it's really worked for.
